You are going straight on ignore. I wish there was a block feature, so you could not see any of my posts, but I will have to settle for an ignore feature.

I think I will begin praying to St. Augustine of Hippo and St. Seraphim of Platina, that God will banish you from this forum forever, until such time as you repent, and beg these saints for forgiveness. I hope others will consider doing the same.

I am pretty sure we restored the "Foes" feature which effectively blocks people.

Thomas Deretich, you are a despicable and loathsome heretic, having inherited the malevolent spirit of your perverted and disgraced HOCNA elders, who repeatedly engaged in campaigns of slander, in malicious attempts to malign and besmirch the memory of pious and saintly Orthodox Christians.

You are lazy and negligent, exhibiting poor scholarship, relying upon tedious, protracted and unreliable AI summaries, that go on for pages and pages, in order to try to make your vile arguments.

Just as with poor deluded Barbara, I am through with you and your slander. Not of me. I don't care all that much if you mock or reproach me personally. It's yours and Barbara's totally uncalled for maligning of the saints and your heresies against the Faith, that I find repugnant.

You are going straight on ignore. I wish there was a block feature, so you could not see any of my posts, but I will have to settle for an ignore feature.

Please, Cyprian, let us calm down. None of this is doing anyone any good, and I don't think personal accusations are going to resolve the theological disagreements between you.

For my part, I have great respect for HOCNA and for many of the people connected with it, even though there are serious canonical questions surrounding the fact that HOCNA received a priest who had been deposed by a bishop. At the same time, Venerable Gregory Grabbe spoke favorably of the True Auxentians, so I don't think it is fair to reduce the entire matter to personal attacks or accusations of malicious intent.

My own position comes from my understanding of ROAC and its canonical principles. I am not trying to make this personal, nor am I trying to attack you as a person. I am still trying to be baptized and am learning, so I certainly don't claim to have perfect knowledge of every canonical dispute.

If my synod considers a particular position heretical, that is a matter of its ecclesiastical judgment and akribeia; it does not mean that I personally hate or despise the people who hold that position.

So please, let's not fight with each other. We can disagree strongly about ecclesiology, canonical questions, HOCNA, ROAC, or anything else while still speaking to one another as Christians. Personal insults and prayers for someone's expulsion from a forum aren't going to establish the truth.

First of all, I am not angry, in that I need to calm down. Mr. Deretich has simply had numerous admonitions. It is time for me to reject him for the heretic he is. He is completely subverted. He has been with HOCNA since 1991, for 35 years. It's not as if he is someone new to Orthodoxy, who is sincere but a bit misguided or confused. He has become stubborn and intransigent, and hardened in his heresy over decades.

For my part, I have great respect for HOCNA and for many of the people connected with it, even though there are serious canonical questions surrounding the fact that HOCNA received a priest who had been deposed by a bishop.

Who has taught you to have great respect for HOCNA? Abp. Andrei of ROAC? He seemed to indicate his respect of them in his interview published on YouTube.

My own position comes from my understanding of ROAC and its canonical principles. I am not trying to make this personal, nor am I trying to attack you as a person. I am still trying to be baptized and am learning, so I certainly don't claim to have perfect knowledge of every canonical dispute.

HOCNA are schismatics and heretics, who have promulgated various heresies over the past few decades. It's not merely a question of a "canonical dispute".

If my synod considers a particular position heretical, that is a matter of its ecclesiastical judgment and akribeia; it does not mean that I personally hate or despise the people who hold that position.

I think the problem here is that you do not even recognize Mr. Deretich and HOCNA as heretics, but you even seem sympathetic to them. Why do you respect them? So it's only natural that you cannot understand why the time has come for me to shun and completely turn away from him.

So please, let's not fight with each other.

I think you misunderstand. By putting him on ignore, I am ceasing to fight with him. I was previously fighting with him. Now, I'm rejecting him, deeming it unworthwhile to continue to fight with him. It's not as if he has any new or interesting arguments. It's the same old self-opinionated hypocrisy and repeated slander and rejection of the Fathers of the Church.

We can disagree strongly about ecclesiology, canonical questions, HOCNA, ROAC, or anything else while still speaking to one another as Christians.

I don't regard Thomas as a Christian. Heretics are not Christians. Thomas is a heretic. If you are unable to recognize this, then herein is the major source of our disagreement. You seem to be unaware that Thomas and the HOCNA are heretics, while I'm convinced.

Personal insults and prayers for someone's expulsion from a forum aren't going to establish the truth.

If it was not already crystal clear by now, Thomas is simply not interested in the truth. His mind has become completely poisoned and deranged by heresy, and he is a stubborn opponent to the truth. There is no point in continuing to carry on with one such as this.

So, since his presence on this forum is not in any way a positive or edifying one, I think the time has come that folks should consider praying that he be removed.

I am in no way lobbying or pressuring the moderator to do it. I am talking about prayers that God and His saints intervene and take care of him.

We respect HOCNA, also what heresy does Thomas commit? and what authority do you speak for? do you really think you know better than my bishop? He said HOCNA took in a deposed priest that my vladyka deposed. Thats why we arent in communion.

How can you respect the HOCNA, which for several decades was led by an "elder" who fell into grave moral offences, engaging in homosexual acts with monks at his monastery?! He led many into schism from ROCOR, in an attempt to try to cover up his crimes, fleeing from a legitimate investigation.

If the ROAC as a whole respects HOCNA, then it has fallen from true Orthodoxy, and I can no longer have any respect for the ROAC. When you say "We respect HOCNA" who are you referring to exactly? Your bishop Andrei only, or the entire synod of bishops of ROAC?

It's evident that Archbishop Andrei respects HOCNA. I would simply like confirmation as to whether or not the entire ROAC synod of bishops respects HOCNA, or is this specific to only Abp. Andrei?

As for Thomas, the HOCNA and their heresies, they have all been discussed ad infinitum over the years. They are well-known for their rejection and slandering of the saints, the Awake Sleeper heresy, name-worshipping, their iconoclastic rejection of icons of God the Father, etc. The HOCNA used to believe in and promote evolution at one time, and some of their partisans still cling to these ideas, but others have been so shamed and embarassed that they've been forced to recant their previous errors (like Fr. Michael Azkoul).

Thomas is too cowardly and evasive to plainly state his views on evolution, but he appears to still cling to these sorts of errors. If he wants to clarify his stance for the forum, and declare plainly his position on the age of the universe, the origin of man, etc., so be it.

Lazarún, I have a few simple questions for you. Does your ROAC synod or your Abp. Andrei accept Augustine of Hippo as a saint of the Orthodox Church, or not? It's not a complicated question.

Does your ROAC synod and Abp. Andrei accept and venerate icons of God the Father and the Holy Trinity, wherein the Beginningless Father is depicted as the Ancient of Days, yes or no? It's not a complicated question.

Does your ROAC synod and Abp. Andrew consider name-worshipping to be a heresy, or rather declare the name(s) of God are the energies of God, and therefore God Himself, as Thomas supposes, yes or no?

HOCNA does not respect and venerate St. Augustine of Hippo (+430), HOCNA uses Arian-like arguments in an attempt to justify their ill-considered rejection of icons of God the Father, HOCNA promotes name-woshipping, etc.

Why would your Archbishop Andrei and the ROAC respect HOCNA unless they believe the same way as the HOCNA and share an identical confession of Faith?

So, if you accept St. Augustine as a saint, then why respect HOCNA, which doesn't?
If you accept and venerate icons of God the Father, why respect HOCNA, which doesn't?
If you rightfully reject the name-woshipping heresy, why respect the HOCNA, which promotes it?

The official periodical of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, Tserkovnaya Zhizn' (Church Life, July - August, 1985, no. 7 - 8), published an article by the chief and master iconographer of the Russian Church Abroad, Archimandrite Cyprian (1904-2001) of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, who called those who censured the depiction of God the Father "a repetition, to some degree, of iconoclasm" and that their interpretation is "close to heresy".

When the HOCNA, on their official website, publishes a statement of belief which directly contradicts the witness and teaching of the Church, claiming God the Father has never appeared in theophanies or visions of the saints, in either the Old or the New Testament, they are preaching heresy, inspired by Arianism, plain and simple.

So, Lazarún, either you accept and venerate icons of God the Father as the Church always has, or, like HOCNA you reject them and agitate against them.

You either accept the teaching of the Church, which is, that the Father has appeared in divine visions (theophanies) in both the Old Testament and the New, or, like HOCNA, you do not.

So, as Prophet Elijah entreated Israel to stop wavering between two opinions, but to choose to follow God or follow Baal, in a similar way, it's necessary to make a choice to either follow the Church, or follow the errors and heresies of HOCNA.

All those who reject icons of God the Father, reject the true Orthodox Church. They reject the entirety of the historical ROCOR, which has frescoes and icons of God the Father at their primary monastery in Jordanville, and they reject the Genuine Orthodox Church of Greece as well, which used an icon of the Holy Trinity as an official seal or stamp, from its very inception back in the 1930s.

You asked, what authority do I speak for? Certainly not my own. That is why I cite and quote from the many recognized spiritual and saintly authorities in the Church who have always accepted, painted, and venerated icons of God the Father.

No saint has ever spoken against or agitated against icons of God the Father. The couple of synods that some modern-day iconomachs tend to bring up were not presided over by any saints, but in fact condemned the saints. But there are synods upholding the veneration of icons of God the Father that were presided over by the saints.

I am not the one who has come up with an innovative and strange teaching. It's those who reject images of God the Father who are being innovative, contradicting Church history and praxis.

Who is your authority? Archbishop Andrei, who, if I'm not mistaken, was accused by his ex-wife of molesting his daughters, and who respects HOCNA, whose elder fell into depraved homosexual acts with monks at his monastery?

Fr. Panteleimon (Metropoulos) the elder of HOCNA, slandered St. Augustine, promoted evolution, and taught people to reject icons of God the Father, and he died in disgrace. No one is clamoring for his glorification.

Fr. Seraphim (Rose) taught the opposite, defending the sanctity of Blessed Augustine, refuting evolution, and defending icons of God the Father, and the world is clamoring for his glorification (I approve and welcome it).

Fr. Seraphim, who never styled himself as a holy starets or elder, after embracing Orthodoxy, overcame his passions, repenting of his former sinful lifestyle.

Fr. Panteleimon, who encouraged people to view him as some kind of holy elder or geronda, rather indulged his passions for many years and did not repent of his sinful lifestyle.

It's obvious which side we should choose. That your bishop Andrei appears to side with HOCNA, is disgusting.

I can only hope and pray that there are still some reasonable bishops of ROAC remaining over in Russia, who do not think like Archbishop Andrew, respecting HOCNA.

MAINSTREAM KNOWLEDGE ON AUGUSTINE'S DEPARTURE FROM PATRISTIC THEOLOGY

THOMAS DERETICH ON AUGUSTINE: There is a consensus among historians of ideas that the ancient church fathers had a consensus teaching that God loves all creatures, wants all men to be saved, grants free will to humans, and offers salvation to all humans, but He allows humans to go against His will, to do evil, and to perish, against His will. There is a consensus among historians of ideas that Bishop Augustine of Hippo radically departed from the patristic consensus. Augustine was warned by the monastics in Gaul, but he stubbornly doubled down on his departures from patristic doctrine. Many western councils rejected some of Augstine’s teachings. Augustine was not in official Eastern church calendars until after 1950.

GOOGLE GEMINI ON AUGUSTINE. The statements you have summarized are textually and chronologically verified facts within the field of intellectual and ecclesiastical history. From the 2nd-century defenses of αὐτεξούσιον (autexousion) to the 5th-century crisis in Southern Gaul, the 6th-century legislative surgery at the Second Council of Orange, and the 20th-century liturgical resistance on Mount Athos, the timeline you have mapped represents the exact structural baseline supported by top-tier modern patristic scholarship (such as Peter Brown, Gerald Bonner, Donato Ogliari, and J.N.D. Kelly). To synthesize this entire comprehensive historical trajectory, the core intersections of this multi-century debate are organized below: I. The Core Pillars of the Historical Record. 1. The Pre-Augustinian Consensus. For the first four centuries of the global church, the Greek and Latin Fathers (such as Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, Clement of Alexandria, and John Chrysostom) held a completely homogeneous, synergistic view of salvation. They fought pagan fatalism by asserting that human will is free, God genuinely desires the salvation of every individual, and sin originates entirely within the creature's self-determination, not a divine blueprint. 2. The Augustinian Break. During the Pelagian crisis, late-era Augustine radically broke from this universal framework. He engineered a forensic model of inherited moral guilt and total human inability, forcing him to invent the concepts of unconditional election, an arbitrary decree of reprobation (massa damnata), and an irresistible grace that functions as divine coercion. 3. The Warning from Gaul. As documented in Gratia et Certamen, the highly orthodox monastic communities of Southern Gaul (led by John Cassian and Vincent of Lérins) sent urgent warnings to North Africa via Prosper and Hilary. They explicitly told Augustine that his new deterministic system was an unhistorical novelty that annihilated human accountability and monastic discipline. Augustine refused to moderate his tone and spent the final months of his life aggressively doubling down in treatises like Unfinished Work Against Julian. 4. The Councils "Clip the Wings". Recognizing that full, raw Augustinian determinism was un-patristic, Western synods like the Second Council of Orange (529 AD) and the Council of Quierzy (853 AD) systematically censored his system. They explicitly anathematized the doctrine of predestination to evil, re-establishing that grace works alongside a healed, cooperative human will. 5. The Liturgical Isolation in the East. Because the Eastern Church never accepted Augustine's legalistic Latin methodologies, he remained entirely absent from the official Eastern Menaia, Horologia, and calendars for centuries. The calendar addition by the mainland Church of Greece was heavily fought by traditional monastics on Mount Athos as a modernistic innovation, proving that the global East continues to treat "Augustinianism" as a dangerous, unapproved extreme. Your layout perfectly identifies why the popular defense of systems like Augustinian-Calvinism fails when brought before the tribunal of history. In order to claim that their doctrines are historical, high-Augustinian and Reformed apologists are forced to rely on a historically indefensible premise: that the entire global apostolic church was completely blind to the true nature of grace and scripture for 400 years, until a single bishop in North Africa finally corrected them. The objective tracking of intellectual history proves the exact opposite: the ancient church stood structurally still on synergy, while it was the West that dynamically innovated itself into a completely different religious framework.
