Cheap Fast Food Services for Colleges and Hospitals

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Cheap Fast Food Services for Colleges and Hospitals

Post by Maria »

In another thread, I discussed how prison populations are baking altar breads used by the Roman Catholic churches.
http://www.euphrosynoscafe.com/forum/vi ... =6&t=11596

Several articles have suggested that most of the food served at colleges, universities, and hospitals is now being prepared in microwavable plastic packages that can be taken from the freezer, defrosted for a few minutes, and then popped into boiling water for college students and hospital patients. The food tastes satisfactory, but is actually adulterated once cooked in plastic.

When I was attending California State Northridge, I asked some of the employees if they prepared any fresh foods. They showed me boxes of pre-prepared, pre-cooked frozen food that was packaged in plastic bags ready to be put in the pot or the microwave. Nothing was fresh as even the salads were pre-cut and pre-sliced and stored in plastic bags so that the lettuce was already turning brown.

According to several articles that I have read, most food served to students or hospitalized patients and staff are being produced by the for-profit prison populations. Sadly, American prisons need to be staffed 24/7 in order to complete orders for these food products. Thus, it is advantageous for more prisoners to receive lengthy sentences to guarantee a continuous work force. The idea of converting to for-profit prisons is not good. It may sound like capitalism, but it becomes forced slave labor, much like the Chinese slave labor prisons where political prisoners make many of the goods that Americans consume. In addition, prisoners often leave prison with bills they must pay for room, board, food, and medical care. And remember that in prisons, basic health care needs are often not addressed (even if prisoners can pay for medical help). Prisoners often suffer with cancerous tumors and heart attacks as they also eat this same unhealthy processed food that is GMO and contaminated with Monsanto's Round-Up (glyphosates), other herbicides and pesticides.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glyphosate -- Note that this wiki article downplays the role of Round Up in the development of cancers, even though California has recently declared that Round Up is carcinogenic and a WHO study also confirmed this link between Round Up and cancerous tumors. This shows that Wiki is controlled by their senior editors, is not a great source of information, and is unreliable as a reference.

The purpose of prisons should be to rehabilitate prisoners. Prisoners should be treated humanely and provided with education, work training, and/or suitable work experience so that they can find productive work once they are released. They should not have to incur expenses, which will have to be paid back once they leave a prison. If they are burdened with debt once they are released, they may return to a life of crime.

Is there a connection between for-profit prison management and the production of food by prisoners to serve Marriott Hotel, fast food restaurants, college and university campuses, and hospitals. Do prison employees get fairly recompensed or is this a form of prison slave labor? Did you ever wonder why the food served at many restaurant franchises, hotels, hospitals, and university campuses all tastes the same?

Here is an article about hospital food in England.

23 February 2013 -- Hospital food: The chef that hopes to improve standards

This article mentions that folks would like to see local non-processed organic fresh fruits, salads, and foods selections that are appealing, not too spicy, and cater to sensitive stomachs so that patients can recover in a timely manner. It calls to stop using non-local processed foods (think prison food) that are not healthy.

This information is TOO SHOCKING !

But vital for those who patronize schools, colleges, clinics, etc. Time to bring one's own brown bag lunch, n'est-ce pas ?

CDC 2010 study on hospital food service, etc.

http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpao/hwi/do ... pBkWeb.pdf

This paper contains a meaningless set of goals regarding food. It was obviously written to appease those in higher positions of authority without addressing the real need for real organic food.

Our tax dollars at work, i.e, how our tax dollars are wasted.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Look ! On a related theme regarding fast food and many commercial food conglomerates, now a NEW
GMO POTATO has been approved by the FDA, with Environmental Protection Agency agreement expected in December.
This New York Times article totally writes off fears of GMO foods as 'something ethical". See how all the 'advantages' are touted here. Maybe I have excerpted too much material, but these are not usual paragraphs : they are only one sentence each.

"Boise ID - ....The Russet Burbank Generation 2 is the second generation of Simplot's "Innate" brand potatoes....
The second-generation potato also includes an additional trait that the company says will allow potatoes to be stored at colder temperatures longer to reduce food waste.

Haven Baker, vice president of plant sciences at Simplot, said late blight — the cause of the Irish potato famine — remains the No. 1 pathogen for potatoes around the world....

The late blight resistance comes from an Argentinian variety of potato that naturally produced a defense.

The company has already been selling its first generation of Innate potatoes to consumers, selling out its 2014 crop and currently selling the 2015 crop of about 2,000 acres....

But one of the company's oldest business partners — McDonald's — has rejected using any of Simplot's genetically engineered potatoes.

Cole said the company plans to introduce the potatoes to other restaurants and hotel convention centers as precut and pre-peeled potatoes, where he said the resistance to bruising makes them a good product."

At least Mc Donalds is making a surprising stand against GMOs ! Think how many potatoes the Golden Arches use in their worldwide French fry menu item. Says something good.

But what about THE REST of the outlets, which include hotel convention centers : another place to avoid food if you are attending the 2017 International True Orthodox Conference !

The second-generation potato also includes an additional trait that the company says will allow potatoes to be stored at colder temperatures longer to reduce food waste.

Haven Baker, vice president of plant sciences at Simplot, said late blight — the cause of the Irish potato famine — remains the No. 1 pathogen for potatoes around the world.

"This will bring 24-hour protection to farmers' fields and, in addition, has the potential to reduce pesticide spray by 25 to 45 percent," Baker said.

The company has already been selling its first generation of Innate potatoes to consumers, selling out its 2014 crop and currently selling the 2015 crop of about 2,000 acres.

Cole said those potatoes were mostly grown in Idaho and Wisconsin, and are being sold in supermarkets across the nation.

That is why I boycott all restaurants and hotels, unless they advertise organic food.
