Rhodiola Rosa

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

For the time being, therefore, I occasionally put some drops of the HerbPharm Rhodiola Rosea TINCTURE into my herbal tea [in the morning !]. Usually I forget, and then it's too late for that day. Hence I have not taken much during the past few years.

By the way, there is also a Glycerite form of Rhodiola offered by cutting edge HerbPharm [ Williams, Oregon ].
I believe it is still available. I treasure my old tinctures of it because they are great for traveling when one can not dissolve the alcohol-based tinctures in tea. That is what one needs to do. IF one takes it straight from the tincture, one is absorbing the alcohol, which is terrible for many of us who are sensitive to that. And it's disastrous for people with adrenal fatigue, or any other condition, as the liver will be MORE encumbered than it already is.

Hence, that is why one must dissolve the drops into hot water or herbal tea or black tea - when these are still quite warm.

Great idea! Besides warm tea is great on a cold morning.

Yes, indeed.
The Rhodiola tincture, in case anyone is wondering, does not significantly alter the taste of your tea.
But expect a slight bitter tang. This is surely a small price to pay for getting the healthiest known form of an immensely valuable root.

I meant to explain, which I didn't entirely, that the tincture form is healthier because there is none of that 'Softgel" silly coating around the Rhodiola or any herb. Nor the gelatin capsules. One never knows until too late when an expose is done some year or decade later, what exactly the ingredients are of that coating.
It is better to take no risk. Also, is the Rhodiola inside the capsule REALLY AS nutritious as the pure tincture ?
I don't believe so.

This is WHY the tinctures are preserved in an alcohol solution. If the alcohol burns off by the heating of the tea, then any objection to the tincture is taken care of. But, how do we know how strong the herb inside the softgel is ? Or, how long it will stay preserved in its ideal strength ?

I distrust the capsules, tablets, softgels. They are fine. If one is leery of the tincture-in-tea routine, surely taking the herb in any form is going to help one's health. But how much ? The best is to take this or any herb as directly as possible, which in tincture form. Tinctures are made when the herb is at its peak, and then hand-dried if by a reputable company like HerbPharm or Gaia. Eclectic Institute is another good brand.

Reporting that HerbPharm does still offer the Glycerite form of Rhodiola. It is ORGANIC !
However, I feel the Glycerites tend to be weaker than the herb preserved in alcohol. So it depends on what the
person needs and prefers.

I tried the glycerite form of another herb ... did not sit too well.

Can we just obtain the raw herb and make a tea with it?

That's what I aim to find, from a reputable seller. It's difficult to do without connections, I suspect !
But why not keep posting here to inform everybody about any possibilities of obtaining the actual Rhodiola Root ?

I did look at the Gaia Herbs offerings and it seems the company sells both Siberian Rhodiola and plain Rhodiola.
We KNOW which one of these choices to pick !

A woman wrote on Amazon a fairly interesting review of the Gaia Siberian Rhodiola. She and other reviewers recommended the same that I did about not taking Rhodiola after early afternoon, at the latest. I would recommend not taking it after 11 am just to be on the safe side. Right now, I am conscientiously taking it immediately upon waking to avoid being kept awake !
Thanks, Archimandrite, for reminding all of us about this great herb which has not received much attention overall commensurate with its great benefit.

I am 62 and despite a pretty impressive supplement arsenal, a good diet with plenty of protein and vegetables, and lots of exercise, was still feeling less energetic than I used to. Then I discovered Rhodiola Rosea! Rhodiola Rosea is awesome - it makes me feel 10-20 years younger! It lifts body and soul, and because it mitigates against cortisol produced in abundance in our anxiety-prone society... This should be in ever senior's arsenal and should be handed out in every nursing home! One caution, you can take up to 2 a day (I take one before breakfast and depending on my need one either before or an hour after lunch) but don't take too much later in the day - it will keep you awake at night - its that powerful.
