Politically correct language in Real Estate

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Politically correct language in Real Estate

Post by Maria »

Behold, no more MASTER BEDROOMS.

The correct term is not Mistress Bedroom either.

No, the politically correct prescriptionists have declared that HOMEOWNER BEDROOM is the best politically correct term.

Lord have mercy! Now the prescriptionists are getting into our bedrooms.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Well said. Thanks for bringing a little levity to the topic.

That IS funny, Maria !

I guess I am not "with current things", but what is so objectionable to the average person out there about
"Master bedroom" ? Is it the masculine choice rather than a neutral term ?

The fact is, it describes the main quarters of the house in a clearly understood way.
What does "homeowner bedroom" mean to anyone ? Really vague designation, which lacks any sense of grandeur.

I think real estate agents are a little harmed by substituting this plebeian term.

Let us know of any OTHER developments in the field, Maria !
It's been almost 2 decades since I dealt with any real estate people. Funny, I was just thinking about how
I got conned by that particular real estate agent who assured me that my prospective place had a NEW roof.
Yeah, next joke ! Rain poured in like a sieve as soon as I moved in.
I am still coping with the results of that lie almost 2 decades later !

She also dragged me to WORSE dwellings, not listening to my insistence that I was NOT interested to see any other places.
Too aggressive.
A huge storm started on way back which I would have missed without the delay she had caused, and caught my poor little underpowered car in the middle of it.
It was really a scary trip and I barely, barely made it home! I was terrified all the way back.
Example of devils conniving using pushy personalities, to create extra trouble.
After that, I really had no wish to deal with any real estate agent after that insensitive, and downright slick liar.
I did consult another to help a friend try to find a property once. But that was all.

So let us know if you hear any other stories of such changes of terminology or any related topics !

The term "politically correct" might be more accurately given as "Marxist correct". This is simply one example of the constant chipping away at our language, institutions, culture and values by those who are either Marxist in their aims and objects of seeking to overturn our society, or they are those who perhaps innocently are carried away by the relentless propaganda and support such nonsense, among other things in the name - as they see it - of fairness. These are Lenin's useful fools.

To stand apart is to invite criticism, attack and pejorative labelling. At this point no-one wants to hear what you have to say or to enter into a meaningful debate. A typical and long standing tactic of the political Left.

So in my book once a master bedroom always a master bedroom. And don't allow them to correct you, or they will little by little turn society into an Orwellian nightmare. Something they are already quite successful in establishing.

Right !

I believe it's important to NEVER USE any of the common language of the time.
Like even simple things like the way people say "Thank you for all that you do".
Why can't they LIST all the things that "you do" ? In short it's a LAZY way of wrapping everything together,
and honestly, sounds highly insincere.
Someone said this to me recently> I corrected her. Heard it the next time and the next because
it gets into the mind of a receptive person and hardly ever gets expelled.

Perhaps THIS is a microcosm of the problems of absorbing any popular "culture" [NON-culture, of course, or Barbarian a-culture].
They get pounded in by people, media, society, schools, anywhere and most people lack will to
NOT accept them, let alone NOT employ these terms which suddenly are in use everywhere.
But all sound corny. Exanple : "you are good to go". What does THAT mean ? It says nothing really.
Why not say specifically "Your car is ready" ?
The information relayed is about the car, not about "you" being "good".. totally ridiculous.

As if the entire nation is barely able to rise above younger teenage mentality and parlance !
