Then how do you explain that the majority of cradles in Russia that are either part of ROCOR currently or ever were part of ROCOR or in communion with it are against the union? On the Internet, most, but definitely not all, of the voice from America does seem to be converts on either side, but I would not judge the whole situation based on that.

Simple. How did ROCOR get to Russia? The reality is that it was imported from the US following the McCarthy era. In the same way that there are now cradle Baptists in Russia thanks to another US import.
The identification of ROCOR and it's splinter groups with the catacomb Church is artificial at best. It was merely an attempt to give ROCOR a "history" in Russia which it never had.

That may be with some groups claiming such lineage, but the majority of the 400-some parishes of the ROAC are Catacomb Churches that have always been in the catacombs. In fact, with the current persecutions by the MP and the state, with them stealing ROAC churches, whether they are ancient abandoned churches that were vacant and then bought and registered by the ROAC or if ROAC members built them themselves, very soon the ROAC may be 100% in the Catacombs in Russia very soon.

Also remember that in Saint Philaret's times and earlier Catacombniks would write asking to commemorate him since their hierarchs had reposed in the Lord. In reply Saint Philaret sent bishops secretly in to Europe and started to ordain clergy for them. There was always a spiritual link, if not an adminstrative one.

But to get back to my question I asked, I would say that this is because those cradles in Russia know the MP better than you, I, or probably most people abroad, including ROCOR hierarchs do.

But they haven't always been ROAC, have they......
That would be like the Baptists claiming that Russian protestants have always been Baptists....

They have always been Catacomb Churches. I would not dare calim that the have always been members of ROAC. The ROAC was formed from ROCOR's graciously ordaining bishops for the Catacombniks (like they did for the GOC), some of which came above ground, became public, and are a registered Church.

It appeared to be celebrating not just Nationalism, but Communism in their trapeza hall with all the Communist propoganda posters in the background. Since Communism murdered more people that Nazism ever did and Communism purposefully targeted Orthodox Christians to murder, there is no way that I could ever view Nazism as less of an evil than Communism.

Hmmmmm....
Seriously, I'm beginning to wonder about the psychology of the opposition to the MP/ROCOR reunion, and I'm coming to the conclusion that what is behind it is McCarthyism.

What I have noticed is:

1) The most vocal opposition is coming from non-Russian converts in the Americas to ROCOR and groups which have splintered from it.

2) The language of their opposition is couched in terms which are strikingly McCarthyist, and always refer to the political issue of Communism and contains the same Red Scare beliefs of conspriracy and espionage ("Reds under the bed").

3) Communism is seen as the "ultimate" evil, and any evidence that other forms of totalitarianism are just as evil (eg the Nazi holocaust of the Jews) have to be denied or belittled.

So I'm coming to the conclusion that poor old ROCOR's woes in this can all be traced back to politically immature psyches which cannot shake of the McCarthyism which was so powerfully instilled into the collective consiousness of the US and Latin America.

George

  1. The Orthodox Autocracy was that which restrained the mystery of lawlessness. Support for the monarchy was and is a RELIGIOUS duty.

  2. Sovietism was responible for the murder in usually horrendous circumstances of the between 60-80 million people because of their True Orthodox faith.

  3. A Tsar has not been restored and the old Communist appartciks are dragging once Holy Russia even further down into the abyss behind the "facade" of a Spiritual rebirth which is propped up by the likes of the New Calendarists of Greece who OF COURSE were in Communion with the "Living Church".

  4. The struggle between "Tsarism" and "Sovietism" is essentially Spiritual and not political.

While some o fthe pictures from that site were proven to be fake, this picture is one I would presume to be real since it is frim a MP Cathedral site:

And your point is? With out knowing any details about the event, I can summise the following:...1. It's not inside a church, more likely the church hall or even a neighboring building. 2. Based on the background pix they are probably honorinf men who gave they're all for fighting against their Nazi enemies (let's not forget they even sided with the Soviets against the Nazis. 3. Even our various countries honor and pray for our veternans.

So again, what is your point? Just because these men were in the soviet military? Even you could not possibly stoop so low.

Katya

Dear Katya,

If they were SS veterans in lets say an SSPX chapel would you react the same way?

Theophan.
