Why? I already pay taxes for this kinda stuff. if the US can spend 177 MILLION per day in Iraq, they certainly should be able to fund this.

Because it is going to take more than that and without others' help more people are going to suffer and die. Why do it? Because you care, because you can. Real people are suffering and dying.

Granted - but how do you know that the money makes it to those who need it?

Well if you are worried, then donating items like water, antiseptic wipes, sanitary napkins, clothes, formula, food, etc. helps secure that lingering doubt.

Thomas, you're just too halarious. :) (Though, it is your very right to also question where your money goes from the charities said above.)

To Tom S

I come from the countiry that has highest taxes in the world, and still swedish people give many billion dollars per year in donations.

I pray for those americans in New Orleans

Exact science must presently fall upon its own keen sword...from Skepsis there is a path to "second religiousness," which is the sequel and not the preface of the Culture.

If you need to ask why? TomS, then you clearly have failed to understand the teaching of the Gospels. As the eldest of the bishops of the Church of Greece has written, if I have 800 grammes of bread and my neighbour 400 grammes I am a thief.

To render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's is your duty as a citizen. To give alms to your neighbour is your brotherly duty as a Christian. That you even ask beggars belief. And this from one who lives in one of the richest countries in the world and its only superpower.
