Archbishops Auxentios, Maximos, Chrysostomos II, Makarios

Post by Anastasios »

Friends,

When Archbishop Auxentios, a basically well-intentioned but horrible administrator, died in 1994, he was succeeded by Archbishop Maximos.

Soon thereafter, HOCNA left communion with said Archbishop Maximos. Archbishop Maximos then brought in the pedophile Metropolitan Pangratios who had at that time a Synod which also had an ecumenist bishop on its rolls (I know this from personal contact).

The Lamians, who separated from the GOC of Archbishop Chrysostomos II (who had separated from Auxentios along with the vast majority of the Synod), now have declared Archbishop Auxentios's deposition to be in error. Ok, so if that is the case, why did they not enter communion with Archbishop Maximos and forget having their own Archbishop? Do they view HOCNA as the rightful successor to Arch. Auxentios and NOT Arch Maximos?

Finally, does anyone know anything else about Archishop Maximos? Does the St Seraphim of Platina Hermitage in California still fall under him?

Inquiring minds want to know :)

Anastasios,

Welcome back.

I read the speech bishop Makarios gave at their convention late last year. This was before he was elected "archbishop". This speech , titled "bondage, freedom , and reconcilation" (or something like that), describes in detail their thinking that a couple of "good" bishops didn't agree with with Auxentios' deposition, but they were "forced" to go along with it - thus placing them in a sort of "bondage". And since their "freedom", they have pursued unity with HOCNA thinking they are the "rightful" successors of Auxentios (not Maximos). This new story is all very problematic for the Lamians as it forces them to explain their position, which by their own admission (albeit in around about way) makes them schismatic from HOCNA. ??

From what I have been told, they were on the verge of unity with the HOCNA last year sometime but HOCNA asked them to show them their files, which is to mean they wanted to see all the details of their clergy and who they are - a scrutiny for sure. The Lamians were offended and broke off their efforts.

As I have mentioned, Gregory Abu-Asali, who promotes the Lamians as the "last bastion of Orthodoxy" second only to himself, and who despises the HOCNA at the same time, is in a bit of a bind to explain this. Clearly he is not far off from finally declaring himself the last Orthodox bishop on earth. So what began in the Holy Land 2,000 years ago with Jesus Christ, is ending in Colorado, according to him. This is indeed news for inquiring minds who buy the Enquirer.
