I think those who demand all women dress like 'Little House on the Prairie' all the time haven't grasped the distinction between desire (natural attraction) and lust (the abuse of sex, a sin) and seem to have a problem with women, period. Sexy doesn't necessarily mean sinful.

So the women who think that women should always dress modestly "have a problem with women, period"?

What does sexy mean to you Serge? According to my dictionary it means "Arousing or tending to arouse sexual desire".

I've discussed the sexuality subject before under slightly different circumstances... that time I asked a Protestant message board (who I am friendly with, they understood it wasn't an attack) why exactly women should wear make up. In that case, as in this case (with "looking sexy") my intention isn't to confirm a set rule or principle, as though I would insist that all women should look like they're amish or puritan or something like that. Like when I asked about make-up, all I want to know here to is: why? Saying "it's ok to look sexy" and "those who don't think it's ok misunderstand" is an answer to a question, but not the question that was asked (I assume it was not an intentional side-step :) ). Again, the question is, why? What is to be gained? Even apart from the moral aspect of the subject, it certainly seems both easier and cheaper to dress modestly than it does to appear "sexy". So, again, why do it?

Let's assume that it's ok to dress in such a way thatyou "look sexy". Okay then, why do you want to? Some valid answers might be "to attract men," "to impress my boss," "to turn my husband on," etc. A valid answer is not restating your premise with different language. So, conceding for the sake of argument that it's ok to "dress sexy," can someone tell me why you would want to do that, and what benefit it is, as opposed to dressing and looking modest? :)

I do not thik that they really have anything to gain by wearing makeup and the best clothes. maybe only in the eyes of society but that does not matter. I would have to agree with the point made that there are far more benefits and rewards to modesty, however society does not think so. we will eventually be judged by a higher authority than society though.

In reply to the few posts made by people on here ( I dont remember who said it right now...) what is the big deal with us women looking 'sexy'? What is wrong with 'Little house on the prarie' dresses? We were called to be modest women and not dress so as to attract men's disires... in my opinion i think it's the wrong idea if a guy is attracted to a women just based on looks... why cant they be attracted based on their spirituality and whats inside? isnt whats inside that counts? thats what i was always taught at least.

MaryCecilia who loves the idea of dressing like little house on the prarie girls

Okay, here is my view of the subject on women and make-up. I do not like it one bit at all. To me I much prefer a woman who does not wear make-up at all because women are already beautiful. I prefer a woman who goes with what she has been given by God. Let me explain, women are often called the fairer sex because they are and I don't think women need make-up to be beautiful but a lot of women and men have bought into this whole notion beauty emphasized by our worldly society. We have companies and magazines that tell women to slop this or that on their face, and they will be pretty if they do. But are they really beautiful by wearing make-up? Why is it in this age of cosmetics and plastic surgery that so many women hate how they look? With all of these advances, women should be feeling great about themselves. The reason is is that nothing will ever be good enough, there will always be someone else who is more beautiful. It is game of vanity. There is no shortage of women who were make-up in the world, but to find a woman who loves God with all her heart, that is worth more than all of the finest jewels and gold and silver in the world.

Mary did make a good point though. I think that virtue is the most important thing to look for, and a deep sense of faith and love of god. these are the important things in a real relationship. the thing is that some people are not so enlightened. I can see the point of others though talking about how some women act and dress. the church is not a place to wear flashy gaudy clothes and that is the lesson. but even outside of church modesty should be important. if a man loves a woman just because she is beautiful even if she is an aetheist or a terrible person then that is quite a mistake.
