I didn't see any posts on this. They say it hit Chelyabinsk. I googled the map to get an idea of the location and looked for a name that I recognized. Imagine my shock when I saw that it is South of Yekaterinburg. About 2 hours drive. And this happened on the day of the Meeting of the Our Lord Jesus Christ. Lord have mercy.

Other forums put this information in news or in the prayer section since over a thousand people were injured, two of whom are in serious condition.
Lord have mercy.

You are correct. I have been following this story since it happened last night my time, which was daylight in Russia on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord.
Sometimes, after an earth shattering event like this, people repent. Let's hope that the Russians return to the True Faith.
Are there any True Orthodox Christians in this part of Russia?
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

I don't know. There could be little home Churches under Archbishop Tikhon. Or maybe God's purpose was to wake up these people. I think this is definitely connected to the Tsar Royal Family martyrs. It's just the first day. Let's keep track of the following events.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)
Re: Meteor hits Russia
I wasn't even thinking about the timing coinciding with the Feast, due to the massive time zone difference !
Glad you both mentioned this !
Chelyabinsk, I went through it I believe, once, but mainly I recall it from one of the sad memoirs of
people sent to exile/concentration camps. I think she was stuck there for quite some years. Or close to there.
I have to remember which of those many I read this was in fact.
I remember Christine Sutherland [married an Englishman after her getting out of Russian camp] was in
Troitsk, and I thought that was remarkable to have a religious name for the village or town where she was sent.
Those memoirs that I read 20 years ago of the sufferings of those unjustly sent out there by the wicked NKVD etc.
were so etched in my mind that I still recall vignettes from them !
IF this is correct, that there were camps in that area, maybe it has tsomething to do with that history, too ?
If it were to reflect on Ekaterinburg, surely God would have directed the meteor closer to the city, it seems -
but total up all the iniquity in that particular region perpetrated by the Bolsheviks and maybe the meteor
had something to do with that nefarious history.
How was it that so many people were actually killed ? I didn't read the news story.

Re: Meteor hits Russia
Over a thousand people were injured by the blast impact, the shattered glass, and the panic that ensued.
They said that the force of the explosion was like an atomic blast. No doubt, these people will have inner ear problems with vertigo and hearing impairments. Let us pray for them.
Two of those injured are in critical condition. No names have been released.
Here is another news article with a lot of pictures.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 97722.html
And there is this one from the NY Times news:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/16/world ... .html?_r=0
Meteors typically cause sonic booms when they enter the Earth’s atmosphere, and the one that occurred over Chelyabinsk was forceful enough to shatter dishes and televisions in people’s homes. Car alarms were triggered for miles around, and the roof of a zinc factory partially collapsed. Video clips, uploaded by the hundreds starting early Friday morning, showed ordinary mornings interrupted by a blinding flash and the sound of shattering glass.
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
