Dear List members I urge you to send your COMPLAINT to the President
of the Russian federation, Mr. Dimitry Medvedev.
I am enclosing a block letter. Send it to the following website:

To His Excellency

The President of the Russian Federation

Mr. Dimitry Medvedev

The Kremlin, Moscow

Your Excellency:

As a an Orthodox Christian, I was greatly saddened to hear that
in a court of the Russian Federation it was decided to take away
the Churches of ROAC(Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church) based
in Suzdal and hand them over to the Moscow Patriarchate.

These dilapidated buildings were allocated to ROAC twenty years ago
by the authorities and ROAC under the most adverse conditions and
strenuous economic circumstances has restored them to Churches
dedicated in the worship of the Lord. The court decision amounts
to just plain stealing of these properties.

There are many more dilapidated buildings in Suzdal (formerly
Churches) which are waiting some day to be restored into Churches
again and which are under government jurisdiction. They can be
handed to the Moscow Patriarchate and the MP, using its vast
resources, can restore them once again into Churches. Why should
they be handed somebody else's hard work?

It is only logical to ask the question as to what happened to the
freedom of religion and conscience. After all, ROAC is pronouncing
unadulterated Orthodoxy which is the official religion in Russia .
Their only sin is the belief that the present day MP is Stalin's
creation and thus it is in illegitimate church without the Grace of
the Holy Spirit. It is clear that this decision has nothing to do
with applying justice and everything to do about silencing voices of
opposition to the MP.

Why is ROAC being continuously persecuted in every conceivable way,
the latest of which is to take its Churches and drive it once again
into the catacombs? Hasn't Russia suffered enough during the many
dark years of Godless regimes? Why prolong the misery for a segment
of the Russian population and make them refuges of consciousness in
their own country? Aren't they Russian citizens deserving protection
under Russian law like those who follow the Moscow Patriarchate?

As a President of a country with a long and rich history as an
Orthodox nation, you have a special privilege but also a unique
responsibility in protecting the Orthodox in general and those who
have dedicated their lives in the service of God. As such, I trust
that you will find in your conscience the same objections that I do
regarding this court decision. I therefore add my voice to those who
urge you to intervene so that these Churches remain with ROAC and
prevent a clear violation of basic human rights.

Respectfully,

Your name

To His Excellency
The President of the Russian Federation
Dimitry Medvedev
The Kremlin, Moscow

Your Excellency:

I have just been informed of some very disturbing news regarding the confiscation of Churches from ROAC (Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church) based in Suzdal. As a Christian Orthodox I was both surprised and saddened to hear such news.

The first question that comes to mind is what happened to the freedom of religion and conscience. What is so terribly wrong with ROAC to be punished in such a monumental way? It is inconceivable that whatever was found wrong that it amounts to such harsh treatment. After all, ROAC is an Orthodox Church. Its’ only “fault” is its’ refusal to accept the Moscow Patriarchate as a valid Church because it is Stalin’s creation and it does not have canonical succession as required by the Church Rudder. It is clear to anyone who watches the events that this decision has nothing to do with applying justice and everything to do about silencing voices of opposition to the MP. It is obvious that the MP does not like competition. What is most amazing in this case is the blind support that the government is giving to the MP. Are we re-living the days when the official church was an instrument of the Soviet government? Today’s news can only reinforce this fact.

One can only wonder why ROAC is being continuously persecuted in every conceivable way and driven once again into the catacombs. The confiscation of its’ Churches is only the latest in an ongoing attempt to drive it to extinction. A merciless persecution of the Orthodox Church and a rein of terror were unleashed during the Communist revolution and continued for almost seventy years. This period of Atheism and denial of God was one of the darkest periods in Russian history. Are we returning back to those horrible days? The Godless regimes of the 20th century have tried in every conceivable way to destroy the Church of Christ but all the persecutors have perished while the True Church has survived and will survive regardless of any machinations against it. It should be clear to you Mr. President that if the Catacomb Church did not die during the harsh years of relentless Communist persecution, it would not die now either. Hasn’t motherland Russia suffered enough during those horrific years? Haven’t the authorities learned any lessons? Why prolong the misery for a segment of the Russian population and turn them against their own government? What danger do these God-fearing citizens pose to the state to be dealt with such ferocity and injustice?

The dilapidated buildings that were allocated to ROAC twenty years ago by the authorities were turned into Churches by the hard work and sweat of ROAC under the most adverse conditions and strenuous economic circumstances. Such a decision to snatch away the property of one Church in an effort to strangle it and turn around and give it to another is unheard of in any civilized society. The court decision amounts to just plain stealing of these properties by the very same authorities that allocated these properties to ROAC 20 years ago. What kind of credibility or faith can anyone have in such authorities when they reverse their decision in such a dramatic and unpredictable manner? At this point, there are many more dilapidated Churches in Suzdal that are under government jurisdiction and which can be given to the Moscow Patriarchate. The MP, using its’ vast resources, can restore these Churches without having to steal somebody else’s hard work with the blessing of the Russian authorities.

Mr. President: As a leader of an Orthodox country, you have a privilege and a responsibility to be a fair and just leader for your people and to protect those who have dedicated their lives in the service of Christ and His Church. I trust that you will object to the blatant violation of fairness and justice perpetrated on ROAC. I therefore add my voice to those who urge you to intervene so that these Churches remain with ROAC.

May the Lord Jesus Christ be your protector and guide in all your decisions.

Respectfully

Pictures of some temples which the Russian government illegally will confiscate to the true Orthodox Christian in Suzdal (ROAC) these temples which were built by their old ancestors and after the Soviet regime they were also restored by them, they will surely be given to the MP now that they are no longer ruins.

For instance, here you can see in what condition the "Tsarkonstatinovsky" Cathedral it was received in 1976 and in what condition is today.

In this cathedral had been ordained as a Bishop, Vl. Agafangel (Pashkovsky) and many other Bishops and Priest, including me.

President of the Russian Federation Mr. D. A. Medvedyev!

re: Российская Православная Автономная Церковь

Mr President:-- Each individual of the society has a right to be protected by it in the enjoyment of his life, liberty, and property, according to standing laws. He is obliged, consequently, to contribute his share to the expense of this protection; and to give his personal service, or an equivalent, when necessary. But no part of the property of any individual can, with justice, be taken from him, or applied to public uses, without his own consent, or that of the representative body of the people. In fine, the people of this commonwealth are not controllable by any other laws than those to which their constitutional representative body have given their consent.

Facts are stubborn things Mister President; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclination, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. And that fact is fear Mister President. Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that Russians will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it.

Government is instituted for the common good Sir; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it.

Human nature itself is evermore an advocate for liberty. There is also in human nature a resentment of injury, and indignation against wrong. A love of truth and a veneration of virtue. These amiable passions, are the "latent spark"... If the people are capable of understanding, seeing and feeling the differences between true and false, right and wrong, virtue and vice, to what better principle can the friends of mankind apply than to the sense of this difference?

It is my wish that you give this letter great consideration, when dealing with the souls of The Russian Orthodox Autonomous Church.

Yours truly,

Fr John Mahan
