COMMUNIQUE
of the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of 22/08, 2007On the 22 of August, of this present year, in the usual Hall of Meetings in the spiritual center of Peristeri, the Sacred Synod of the Church of the TOC of Greece met in regular session, under the Presidency of His Beatitude, Nicholaos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece.
Upon reading the list of the participating Hierarchs, it was ascertained that all of the Bishops of the Holy Synod were present, including the following:
The Most Reverend Metropolitans
Pochomios of Argolis
Galaction of Peristerion
Tarasios of Beroia and Naousa
Andreas of Thevae and Levasia
Sevastianos of KitionThe Right Reverend Bishops
Panteleimon of salamis
Ignatios of Farsala
Lazaros of Amathous of the Church of Cyprus
Chrysostomos of Phillipi
(Absent for justifiable reasons of poor health)In accordance with the agenda, the Sacred Synod proceeded to elect two new Metropolitans for the Sacred Metropolises of Piraeus and the Islands, and for Larisa and Ternavo, Namely:
1) The Right Reverend Bishop of Salamis, Panteleimon, was elected Metropolitan of Paraeus and the Islands.
2) The Right Reverend Bishop of Farsala, Ignatios, was elected Metropolitan of Larisa and Ternavo.
In accordance with the prevailing Ecclesiastical Order, the elected Metropolitans gave the Canonical Certification before the Sacred Synod.
The Enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Piraeus and the Islands will take place on Sunday 24 September/7 October, 2007 at 4:00 PM in the afternoon in the presence of His Beatitude Nicholaos, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece and members of the Holy Synod at the Church of St. Andreas, Drapetsona, Piraeus.
The Enthronement of the new Metropolitan of Larisa and Ternavo will take place on Saturday, 30 September/13 October, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the morning at the Sacred Metropolitan Monastery of the Holy Apostles in Rapsani, Larisa, in the presence of the Most Reverend Pachomios, Vice-President of the Holy Synod and other members of the Holy Synod.
