New Bishops for the Church in Cyprus

Post by drewmeister2 »

From an e-mail I received from Fr. Anthony Gavalas's list:

January 22/February 5, 2007

We have received news today from the Holy Synod that Archimandrite Sevastianos Epiphaniou has been elected Bishop of Amathous and Hieromonk Lazaros Athanasoff has been elected bishop of Thimethous, both sees of the Church of Cyprus, which has been widowed (without a bishop) since the repose of the venerable Metropolitan Epiphanios of Kition.

Both consecrations are scheduled for this week.

We pray that the All-Holy Trinity will endow these two new hierarchs with gifts of patience, endurance, discretion and above all with Apostolic love, zeal and purity of Faith to govern the ancient apostolic Church of Cyprus in these difficult times.

Archpriest Anthony B. Gavalas

Many years!

Several laymen protested this concecration of Archimandrite Sevastianos Epiphaniou,Cypriate laymen and many yelled ANAXIOS, and protested to the point that the police had to be called. Also it is known that certain churches in Cyprus were left to Archimandrite Sevastianos Epiphaniou through the will of his uncle Bishop Epiphaniou, and Archimandrite Sevastianos Epiphaniou past "experiances" is also drawn into question,i do not wish to go into detail, but it is something that would prevent him from being a bishop.
