There was an article by Orthodox America called Orthodox Mission: Lessons from the Past, and it got me to wondering about some of the Orthodox missionary activity going on right now. Recently we were lucky enough to hear a bit about how things are going in Japan... does anyone else want to share how missionary activity is going--or the Church in general is doing--in their area?

At my parish(soon won't be my parish) we have the St. Herman Food Pantry which distrubutes food monthly to some of the needy in our community...mostly Russians.
At a local Bulgarian Church(former HOOMers) they have a weekly free meal as well as ESL classes. Also, a very simple but effective thing...they have a sign that they put on the front of the Church that reads "Services Upstairs- All Are Welcome".
Recently a college age conference was held at Holy Cross School of Theology, organized by the people at the Bulgarian Church. Fr. George Dragas, Fr. George Calciu (in a Romanian camp for 20 years) who can be read about here http://www.roca.org/OA/43/43d.htm , and Fr. Vladimir Aleandro who has a mission parish in Connecticut. I was only able to attend the last day of the conference where Fr. Vladimir spoke about missions. These types of conferences are great.
