Your Assistance, Please...

Post by Justin2 »

I'm going into basic training (Army) very soon (I leave on Monday night, Aug. 4th). I would appreciate your prayers very much, if it's not too much trouble! Please pray also for my wife, Marie, because the next two months will be very hard on her, since we'll be apart from one another...

Hi Justin

Are you maybe coming to DLI after boot camp?

If so, what language?

I'll pray for your lonesome wife. :(

I'm going to DLI right after basic. They won't tell me what language I'm getting until I get there (my score was very...flexible, so they're going to plug me in where they want me). I'm really hoping to get Russian, but I'll probably get Korean or Arabic, the way things are lately. We'll see. I can already read Russian and Greek, I just can't understand them completely.

Hi Justin,

I myself graduated from DLI in Spanish, nearly 30 years ago! Like you, I didn't know what language I would get until the end of basic training. At first they said Hebrew, but turned out to be Spanish. You're right. The way the world scene looks now you will probably get Arabic or Korean. In my day, half the school was given over to the teaching of Vietnamese. It's a small department nowadays.

Being sent to learn Spanish at DLI was very providencial. I married one of the instructors and we've been happily married ever since, with five kids, mostly all grown up now. My husband still works there. If we can be of any help, please let me know.

God bless,
Xenia

So, if your husband still works there, you guys live in Monterey? Thanks for the offer, I'll try to get a hold of you when my wife and I move there.

Justin, we live in Seaside, the next-door town. I think you'll like the Monterey Peninsula!
