ROCOR...

Post by Br. Tikhon »

I am simply astounded that ROCOR is still considered an organization founded by Stalin, or so I was led to believe that is the case by a long-time member of this forum. Stalin is dead, consequently there should be no more referring to Stalin, especially in light of the fact that so many faithful Orthodox Christians perished during Stalin's reign of terror.

I pray that Our Triune God may forever blot out the memory of Stalin from people's minds, since Stalin was radical evil incarnate.

Grace, Mercy and Peace.

The MP ...

Dear Brother Tikhon,

Code: Select all

First off, welcome to the forum. I see you use brother in your name, are you a novice in a monastery?

I would be shocked if anyone would say ROCOR was founded by Stalin. Now the MP, yes, but the ROCOR was simply one part of the Russian Church that went abroad to escape Stalin and the evil, atheist, Communist government of the USSR. The other half of the Russian Church went in to the Catacombs. Stalin was not even born when the Russian Church was created, but he definitely was behind the USSR's pseudo-Church, the MP. This is why it is so sad that the ROCOR is capitualting to this so-called "MP".

MP, ROCOR and Stalin...

Post by Br. Tikhon »

Dear Deacon Nikolai,

God Bless!

I am not a monastic but a lowly and humble seeker who is trying to make sense of the situation in regards to MP, ROCOR and Stalin. Thank you for your warm welcome. Is MP a Stalinist organization? What about the rapproachement between MP and ROCOR that was recently discussed? Having read Patriarch Alexeii II various homilies, messages and enunciations I have no sense that he is Stalinist or that MP is a nefarious organization. Patriarch St. Tikhon of Moscow and all Russia whose work in spreading the infallible word of the Living God even to America is the Patron Saint who I venerate and is God's worthy wonderworker on earth.

I do pray for a Russian Orthodox Church that will one day have a representative for the whole Russian Orthodox Church in Russia and abroad.

Unworthy servant Br. Tikhon

Dear Tikhon, I pray that God guides you as a seeker. Here is an excellent history on the ROCOR and the MP by a ROCOR priest at Jordanville. It is very long, but well worth the time to read. I think it will touch on all of the questions that you may have.

Dear Brother Tikhon,

Have you not seen documentation of the anniversary of the "Great Patriotic War"? Do you really believe that Fr Dmitri Dudhko's views on Stalin are that rare within the Patriarchate (and remember he stood up aganist some of the excesses of Sergianism and great personal risk)?

ROCOR was founded before Stalin came to power. However ROCOR-Lavr, a schism from ROCOR which continued on under Metropolitian Vitaly and his now under Bishop Vladimir, was founded by the continuators of Stalin's legacy- the KGB/FSB. See the essay below for details.

Yes given the nature of Soviet power the Lavrites refering to themselves as ROCOR is utterly blasemphous.

It would be better to temper such wild accusations with a bit of humility and admission that not all so called "facts" are truly verifiable and therefore are somewhat suspect.

P.S. Let's not also forget hearsay ....
