And yes, the decision was made under His All-Holiness Patriarch Meletios of Blessed Memory, but was not merely a private opinion, rather it followed from a synodal decree, as described here by His All-Holiness' Chancellor:

'Following the decision which had been taken by the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the recognition of the Anglican Orders, holy services performed on members of our Church by Anglican priests have been proved valid and any Orthodox faithful who cannot reach their own clergy may receive the Sacraments and other religious services from the hands of Anglican priests as lawful, considering them as received from the hands of their own priests.'

M. Protosygellos Panteleimon (Chrysochou), Chancellor to Patriarch Meletios of Constantinople, An answer to the memorandum of the Most Reverend the Metropolitan of Cassandria Ireneaus submitted to the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of Greece convened on June 14, 1929, Chanea, 1929, pg. 32.

Quoted in:
Cotsonis, 'The Validity of Anglican Orders according to the Canon Law of the Orthodox Church,' Greek Orthodox Theological Review, vol. 3 (1957), pgs. 182-196.

As for the exact Session of the Standing Synod of Constantinople when this decree was made, I fear I do not have that information, though it probably could be found in the Minutes of the June 14, 1929 Synod of the Hierarchy of Greece, to which I do not have immediate access.

Apperently even the Rocor can comune in them too;

25th november 2006 Fathers David Robarts and Harry Entwistle Consecrated Bishops
Friday 24 th November 2006 Adelaide, Australia.

By Owen Buckton

THE Reverend Fathers David Robarts and Harry Entwistle were Consecrated Bishops in the Church of God this morning in an historic and moving ceremony in Adelaide's Latvian Lutheran Church of St. Peter, which had been loaned for the occasion.

A large congregation, which included family and friends, Forward in Faith, Anglican Catholic clergy and people representing Anglican Catholic congregations across Australia, Anglican clergy from several dioceses filled the nave and choir loft.

Honoured guests included senior clergy from the Antiochan Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, New Zealand and Oceania representing His Eminence Archbishop Paul Saliba, and a congratulatory message from His Eminence Archbishop Hilarion, Archdiocese of Australia and New Zealand, Russian Orthodox Church, was read (See letter below); “churches which Bishop Robarts referred to as “historic, Catholic and Apostolic churches who know that we are serious and have a good deal in common.”

Chief consecrator was His Grace, Archbishop John Hepworth, Primate of the Traditional Anglican Communion. Co-consecrators were Anglican Catholic bishops, Bishop Tolowa Nona SSC, The Ordinary, Diocese of the Church of Torres Strait, his Assistant Bishop Sania Townson and Bishop David Chislett SSC, Bishop of the Northern Apostolic District. As well, a former Anglican Bishop of Bunbury, Bishop Arthur Stanley Goldsworthy was a co-consecrator.

Bishop Goldsworthy, said he was delighted to be there and to be a co-consecrator. Suggesting he had been brave to attend, he said, “I am not afraid. I am not afraid of what they [Anglican hierarchy] may do about it, indeed there is nothing they can do!”

The Anglican Bishop of The Murray who had been a co-consecrator in Rosemont for Bishops David Moyer and David Chislett released the text of a letter he had written to the Australian bishops in which he reminded them of his promise that he would not attend. (Read his letter below). Bishop Davies hosted a gala reception for the new bishops in the afternoon.

Letters of support were received from the Church of England Bishop of Fulham and Chairman of Forward in Faith International, the Right Reverend John Broadhurst. [His letter is printed below]

Both new bishops described the service as moving and wonderful occasion. “I felt I was following in the steps of the apostles, thanks be to God. The people were deeply moved and stirred. The archbishop inspired us all and delivered a brilliant homily. “ Bishop David Robarts told The Messenger Journal.

Receptions are planned for Bishop Entwistle in Perth for December 3 and for Bishop Robarts in Melbourne on December 7 and 8.

FROM HIS EMINENCE ARCHBISHOP HILARION
Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia

Archdiocese of Australia and New Zealand

Dear Father David,

On the eve of your elevation to the episcopal rank for archpastoral service in the Traditional Anglican Communion, I wish to extend to you heartfelt greetings and best wishes for many years of fruitful ministry. I will be praying for you on this most important and auspicious day of your life. May God grant you good health, a long and joy-filled life and His rich and abundant mercies.

I am sorry that I was unable to communicate with you earlier or to arrange for someone from our diocese to be present at the consecration service. But I will be with you in spirit.

With love in Christ,

  • Archbishop Hilarion

LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF FORWARD IN FAITH INTERNATIONAL.
The Right Reverend John Broadhurst

23 rd November 2006.

“Dear Fathers,

I write to assure you that you are both in my prayers today as you prepare to be ordained as bishops in the Church of God in Adelaide tomorrow.

It has long been clear to me that the treatment afforded to members of Forward in Faith Australia by the Anglican Church in Australia has left you with little option but to pursue the course you have chosen. It is, then, my fervent hope that your future ministries will be richly blessed as you endeavour to serve all faithful Anglicans throughout Australia and that we will continue to work in close collaboration in the years to come.

With every blessing,

  • John Fulham

The Right Reverend John Broadhurst

Bishop of Fulham

Chairman, Forward in Faith International”

FROM THE RIGHT REVEREND DR. DAVID MOYER SSC
Parish of The Good Shepherd Rosemont, PA,

United States of America

Dear Brothers in the Apostolic ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, David and Harry,

How I wish that I could be present for the solemn occasion of your Consecrations as Bishops in the Church of God, and to join in the episcopal laying on of hands.

My anticipated travels as the Bishop for the Armed Forces and as Episcopal Visitor to England prevent me from being away from Good Shepherd, Rosemont at this time.

You will be consecrated as bishops the day after we in America gather around many tables with family and friends for Thanksgiving Day. As I give thanks for God's many blessings in this country and think of his many providential acts, be assured that I give thanks to our gracious and merciful God for raising you with your proven leadership in the Church to the episcopate. Your gifts, experience, spirituality, love of people, and steadfast commitment to Catholic faith and order in Anglican tradition will quite assuredly aid the Church in her proclamation of the Gospel and the growth of the Church Catholic and Apostolic in our time when forces within and beyond the Church work against both.

I look forward to working with you as members of Traditional Anglican Communion's College of Bishops. To God be the glory.

(The Right Reverend Doctor) David Lloyd Moyer

LETTER FROM THE BISHOP OF THE MURRAY, TO THE BISHOPS OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH OF AUSTRALIA
“Dear Brothers,

As much as we would all like to minister in a Church where misinformation, whether intentional or not, never occurs, I hope you will forgive me for reminding you, that whatever you may hear, I am fulfilling my undertaking which I made to you at the Bishops' Meeting earlier this year. This means that I will neither be participating in, nor attending, the consecrations of the Reverends Harry Entwistle and David Robarts to the episcopate, which will occur in Adelaide this coming Friday 24th November. These are taking place in a church building which is not part of the property of the Anglican Church of Australia in the Province of SA.

Also to allay any misunderstanding I will explain about licences held in The Murray. At present there is only one bishop assisting me in episcopal functions. This is the Rt Rev'd Stuart Smith, formerly Bishop Assistant of Adelaide. He does this, in retirement, by holding my licence as an archdeacon and is permitted to assist in ordinations, officiate at confirmations and represent me and act 'in loco episcopi'. My legal advisors inform me that I am within canon law to grant a PTO, which may be exercised as a priest, to the Rt Rev'd David Chislett and to the two new bishops (Robarts and Entwistle). They are rarely in my diocese and are only ever invited to preach, celebrate the eucharist or other offices at which a priest is authorised to officiate.

Despite the differences in our church on the issue of Holy Order, I will continue to co-operate with you all to the highest degree possible in areas where we all have common cause.

Christine and I wish you and your families a happy and holy Christmastide and the blessings of Christ in the new year. We all share a great burden and probably join with the bishops of the early church in their cry of 'nolo episcopare'.

in Christ,

  • Ross The Murray”

:? ?? I'm not quite sure where you get that idea unless it is from the Archbishop's letter and that is not what he is referring to.

If it is the phrase that I underlined, that is not about any persons from ROCOR taking communion particularly not the Archbishop. It is using what is the more usual meaning of the word "communicate" :

Verb
S: (v) communicate, pass on, pass, pass along, put across (transmit information ) "Please communicate this message to all employees"; "pass along the good news"
S: (v) communicate, intercommunicate (transmit thoughts or feelings) "He communicated his anxieties to the psychiatrist."

The good Archbishop was sending a kind note to another Christian human being. Nothing more.

Anglicans cannot be called Christians even at the furtherest stretch by their support for sodomny and pre-natal infanticide.

"A figure of speech?" What you said was:

This isn't a "figure of speech". It is bearing false witness.

Yep, it sure does. It tells me that Archbishop Hilarion is a courteous Christian and a Gentleman, and not some ill-bred, unmannerly oaf.

If they want congratulatory letters from the World Orthodox, then why did they wall themselves off?

George,

Why would an Orthodox hierarch want to acknowledge any "hierarch" of a religious body that is outside of the True Church? They have no Grace. They have no Holy Mysteries and they certainly don't have the Mystery of Holy Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ.

There is something very wrong with Bp. Hilarion's acknowledgement. What bishop of Orthodoxy, in his right mind would even consider a protestant sect to have any place of recognition as a servant of God? That recognition applies only to those who are the faithful of the True Church of Christ of Orthodoxy. And you can cross Bartholomew off the list.

So, George, if you want to unite with the protestants and with the papists, then you go ahead and do that. But, your lame arguements in defense of ecumenism are ignorant.

Bartholowmew, on the one hand is persecuting his own monks of Esphemenou and on the other hand is giving a pathetic speech about not tolerating violence(in the thread about the pope's visit):

Moreover, we are committed to opposing all forms of violence, for the peaceful coexistence of all religious communities in our country. Having lived for centuries in a predominantly Muslim environment, our Holy Church has always promoted dialogue between peoples and encouraged them to live together in peace, in harmony and in reconciliation, disregarding differences of race, religion and culture.

WAKE UP George, and smell the lies...HE COMMANDS VIOLENCE AGAINST HIS OWN ORTHODOX CLERGY....AND WHY? BECAUSE THEY WON'T TOLERATE HIS ECUMENIST CONDUCT. THAT'S A TYRANT, NOT A PATRIACH. Then he spews lies about love and tolerance and peace? And you still believe in him???
