An eye opener indeed! We must be recall the wisdom of Christ as recorded in the Gospel according to St. Matthew:

Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.

We must be careful of those who would profane the truth of Christ revealed through the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, but remain steadfast in our desire for the sinner(in this case those who slander the Holy Church)'s conversion.

If you don't mind, I will share this on another Orthodox board, as I think this should be spread amongst the internet orthodox community. Thank you for posting this.

I couldn't help but note that the article said, in effect, "You can't have anything to do with Orthodoxy because it was founded on violence" (referring to enforced baptisms by secular leaders).

I wanted to say, "So Calvin's Geneva is out then, eh?"

The whole thing is a pastiche of misrepresentation and outright falsehood. The author claims that the doctrine of "no salvation outside the Church" is unscriptural. I take it, the author has never read, oh, say, all of Ephesians? Or maybe he forgot about 1 Corinthians. Then again, there's also the Pastoral Epistles. And . . . Dang! I guess it is a scriptural doctrine.

Sigh. And Orthodox are so often called inflexible and intolerant.

"This idea is appealing to the Western world because it does not emphasise sin or repentance. It is a religion without the dramatic crisis of a new birth or responsibility of living a godly life."

Quotes like this (from the above article) have to make me wonder where they get their information from. All I can say is: huh?

It is very important that we understand this when witnessing to Eastern Orthodox Christians.

Why would these Protestants need to be witnessing to Christians?

This is a sore spot with me now. A group of friends from my former Evangelical church are going to Ukraine this month to do what they are calling missionary work. They are so full of misconceptions it makes you wanna cry. They shake their heads so sadly and piusly as they recite their "The Orthodox are trying to work their way to heaven by the traditions of men" mantra. They are going to stay in their little Protestant enclave over there and return as self-proclaimed experts on Orthodoxy, spreading their misconceptions at every ladies' gathering they attend. Make the Lord enlighten them! May they see the truth!
