Ethiopian/Eastern reunion essay idea.

Post by germanus »

Do you think this is a good idea?
I have been recently inspired to gather info re: the unification of the Ethiopian and Eastern Orthodox churches  This inspiration is founded on my great personal affectionfor the Tawehedo sect of orthodoxy. To those who don't know, this church does denounce monophysitism as a heresy. There are many articles written on this subject and one can locate some of it through the Tawehedo church in Seattle, Wa. USA. When I am done compiling info on this subject, I plan to get a blessing from my priest (Serbian) and if God wills, I will send a complete report on my findings to the bishop for his parousal and suggestions, possible blessing, and then off to the Ethiopian, Serbian, and other bishops...with the hope that they would consider a re-unification. I believe that the timing would be optimal as there is already talk of such happenings. The Serbian church also, in America, is in communion with ROCOR so, knowing this, I feel encouraged that good things may abound from this. WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS? please let me know. p.s. I am not thin skinned so if you disagree I will listen well to your advice. I am not very knowledgeable in the rubrics of the church so if you have valuable insight please let me know. /\ \/

Well Im glad someone else has noticed the Ethiopian church ,The Ethiopians is one of the only groups that the Rocor bishops will accept by confession...strange huh.......This is quite a task as the Ethiopian still adhere to many Jewish laws, for instance the strict Law forbidding women to enter the church during her time of the month(Menstrual cycle) and I cant help but to think of the Confession of our sins being done near or at a grave/cemetary to remind you that someday we too will fall asleep......The most Beautiful giving of Holy Mysteries has to be in the Ethiopian Tawaheedo Church , unfortunately i will not speak of thy Holy Mysteries and if you you are so intrigued, find out for yourself, it will change your life for ever more, unfortunately the Ethiopians as the Armenians havent had a Saint in Thousands of years, but if any Ethnicity or country can lay claim to being one of the most closest and loved by God it would be the Ethiopians, because they were Jews 1000 years before Christ and then when Christ came they all became Christians and Followed the New Testament, But as Christ said I come not to abolish the Law ,but to Full fill it, they too adhere to the old law and at the same time Christ is there Saviour....

Reunion between the Anti-Chalcedeons and Orthodox Christians has been being attempted for 1,500 years so far. They would have to accept the 7 Œcumenical Councils to become Orthodox Christians. If they denounce Monophysitism, that should not be too hard. of course, some Anti-Chalcedonians think that the Eastern Orthodox are Nestorians and that the 4th-6th Œcumenical Councils taught that heresy.

It is my understanding that the Ethiopians were not present at the last 4 counsels because of communication problems???

No, because they stayed in communion with the Monophysites who were anthematized by the 4th Œcumenical Council (Chalcedon).

yes...this is true, it is more a matter of a language barrier. Someone told me once as an example, "put an iron rod half way in a furnace and pull it out, where dose the fire end and the rod begin?" I believe, personally, there is alot of grey area and much is yet to be discussed. May our Holy Bishops keep discussing this matter to rectify the decisions made in Chalcedon. What is important is that we keep talking. To stop, is to be without hope and despondent which is a great sin in the eyes of God.

Are you questioning Chacedon?

Our bishops have been trying to get them back in the Church for 1,500 years!
