Elsewhere on the Orthodox Web...

Post by Julianna »

At another so-called Orthodox Christian site I was recently PM'd about, lately there've been some posts that're rather disturbing. One's where an administrator's for having pagan Hindu idols in one's home! An administrator actually says that demons have no power, so there's no harm in listinging to prayers to demons like Shiva! In fact he does it!!! Maybe that's why no one objects to kids reading Harry Potter there either.

Of course none of the administrators are even Eastern Orthodox Christians either. Yet they're sharing their opinions on what Orthodoxy should be. Again, an administrator says that people should be brought into Orthodox by a simple profession of faith, not by Baptism or any other mystery!

These people seem to want Orthodoxy on their terms not on the Church's terms! :x The same administrator said Sergianism was good, wants divorced priests, married bishops, etc. There's another regular poster (a tonsured Reader no less) that calls the papists orthodox and adheres to the branch theory with them! What's world Orthodoxy (and those that're wannabe World Orthodox) turning into?

Perhaps complaining to the admins about these issue would be a good first step?

I must admit - I was stunned by that revelation!

It was in response to a thread that I started about whether I should throw out the Hindu idols that I had picked up on my trips.

As I told Nicholas in an email -- It started to bother me after reading Fr Seraphim's book and then I started to pray about it, but this thought popped in my head very clearly and immediately - "You KNOW the answer to this question!"

I threw them out.

Juliana,

What would I expect from a schismatic non-Orthodox like you?

I don't have any IDOLS in my house (I said in that thread that having a 3d image would be too much for me), I have a Hindu painting in my closet somewhere (it's JUST ART for God's sake, obviously you are ignorant of Indian culture; I have been to India twice and know that those images are sold on the street as art just like some Greeks have pictures of pagan MYTHS in their house) and yeah twice last year I listened to a tape of Indian bhajan music. Big flipping deal--everyone in India listens to that stuff, Christian, Muslim, Hindu. And Juliana, idols have no power, that's what St. Paul said, right?

As far as Lounger, get a clue. Bobby is an Orthodox catechumen in the OCA. I have a spiritual father who is Orthodox and who is guiding me to wait on converting to Orthodoxy. So don't get on our ecclesial case about being RC Uniates.

As far as "no administrator" being Orthodox, Nicholas of this cafe is an integral part of OC.net and our other global moderator David is Orthodox (OCA).

If I worshiped that Hindu image, that would be a big deal. When I was in India such images were placed in front of me. I did not kiss them or bow to them, and made a point to say so to the host that offered it. But to have it as art is not a big deal since it is a part of Indian cultural myth (hardly anyone actually believes in those things anymore) and a piece of wood with some ink on it is not powerful! You are superstitious if you think so!

I can see the point that some made about the music, I probably won't listen to it anymore (but like I said I listened to it twice last year, woopie.) The art though, give me a break. You all are so wacky. You don't know me, you don't know my religious beliefs yet you throw it out.

Juliana, as far as married bishops, yeah I support the Church discussing that. Not heretical in the least since it was the Orthodox practice for 600 years. And divorced men becoming priests? That happens all the time, even in ROCOR. It's called COMPASSION. I NEVER said Sergianism was objectively good; I said I was glad that good came out of the Church kissing soviet butt so that churches could stay open, that's it. And I only came to that conclusion after reading Pospielovsky who showed that the Church's condition improved somewhat after Sergius made the concessions (that St. Tikhon started anyway).

You can lump everything you hate about me into one little email and try to derail me and my site but we're the biggest, best, and nicest place for Orthodox discussion on the net, so I am not worried.

:o Juliana, I know the admin for which you speak and I can't believe a fellow Southernor could be so blasse about the actual fact of EVIL. All one has to do is look at Sherman, Grant and Lincoln (the all-unholy trinity if you ask me), and you can see that evil does exist. All three of these men believed in spirtualism, that is such things as summoning and channeling the dead etc. Obviosly he has spent to much time with the Yankees up at the seminary.

Well I decided I will not be listening to the tape anymore (even though I only listened to it twice last year). So see, I am reasonable. And yes, I posted this on my website.
