Chicago - The Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center is actively seeking the names of Orthodox Christian Prisoners who were interned or perished at the Dachau Nazi Concentration Camp during the Second World War. The list will be an integral part of the Museum's 2004 spring exhibition on the subject of the Orthodox Christian Easter service that was held at the camp shortly after it's liberation on April 29, 1945.

As described by Gleb Alexandrovitch Rahr - Prisoner R (Russian) 64923, "It the entire history of the Orthodox Church there was probably never been an Easter service like the one at Dachau in 1945." Eighteen Orthodox priests, one deacon and young Greek monk from Mount Athos performed the liturgy while donned in vestments sewn from army hospital linen towels and with red crosses from the uniforms of the SS medical personal.
This Pan-Orthodox exhibit will include memorabilia and personal commentaries from Dachau prisoners and liberators. It is critical that these moments be memorialized and documented for future generations to come.
Anyone willing to submit names, loan artifacts, or submit an oral history is encouraged to contact the Hellenic Museum at HellenicMu@aol.com or phone the museum at 312-726-1234.
