Polish Orthodox Church

Post by rightbyyou »

Would any of you know if the Polish Orthodox Church has any parishes overseas? Specifically in North America? From what I've seen it appears they do not... just hoping someone could confirm. Thank you.

CHRIST IS RISEN!

I don't think there is. I've searched too. Why are you searching?

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

Truly He is risen!

Just curious. I'm American, but my ethnicity is 50% Polish. Just thought it might be neat to attend Liturgy at a Polish church (Roman Catholic does NOT count! )

Cool! I'm 100%. But, as far as I know, the Polish Orthodox go to the Russians and some to the other nationalities. I go to the Russians and have found that I can understand alot. Plus, there are alot of Russians in my church(older generation, of course), who speak Polish. I feel like I can relate to the culture. With some differences of course.

Well, I know that the Autocephalous Metropolis of the Polish Orthodox Church does not any parishes out of Poland. That would means that Church would have to deal with Constantinople... Well, I know there are Polish Parishes, and if I am correct the only two synods that might have Polish churches at all might be OCA and ROCOR. I'm not too sure though, so I don't reassure you if I'm 100% sure. I only heard of this.

Indeed He is Risen!

ROCOR is Russian. There are no Polish churches amongst them. The OCA is more Russian or English-based. They became autocephelous from the Russian Church. The autocephelous church in Poland stems from the Russian Church. I don't know of any church that does Orthodox Liturgy in Polish.

As I mentioned, the people that I met who speak Polish are Russians. But, I know there are Polish Orthodox out there, besides me. :)

I'd certainly like to me them.

Ah, ok, that's cool. I don't speak a lick of Polish so I wouldn't actually be able to understand a Liturgy done in Polish OR in Russian.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.

I see.

That's too bad. I would think that if enough Polish Orthodox immigrants came to America that they would have a few Parishes scattered throughout the country. In my city there used to be two Roman Catholic churches (now there is only one) comprised entirely of Polish people and the entire Mass was done in the Polish language.
