I am not sure how to take this chapter. From the rest of the book we see that the dead coming in contact with the living is very rare and much of the time it is a demon decieving us. So what is happening. I can see that the 2 ruples for a panihkia is good. The apearance to Photios, could be edifying but it could foster pride, I don't know.
The experience of Metropolitan Cyprian is quite known. There are many many, throughout Church History that had such experiences. One thing, to keep in mind is the memorial services and commemorations of the dead that Table of Oblation is quite essential.
What is wrong with russians is they call the memorial services, Panikhidas. But Panikhida is a preparation to an allnight vigil, just as in the Service before the Giving of the Holy Fire in Church.
