O.K. LADIES AND GENTS, Whenis one allowed to take on a Christian name?..here is the scoop, does one take on a new Christian name when a person is read the catachumen prayers of Exorcism, and asked to accept Christ and then asked if he/she denounces the Evil one and then asked to spit on it(evil one)?..if this is so this name is given in order to prepare for Baptism,Right? is there a certain time a person has before being Baptized? I recalled reading that sometimes in the old days it took years for people to be baptized,if so were they catachumens and using new Christian names??? I know you guys might have an answer or a place i could be refered to...
thanks and Glory be to Jesus Christ

Christ is Risen!

In my circumstance, the actual name was determined at the time for my baptism. I was a catechumen for 8 months and many people suggested names for me, during that time. But, I was officially named at my baptism.

Joanna

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. (Ps. 50)

On the 8th day after birth, in traditions where the child is not Baptized that day, he or she is named and made a catechumen, so by this tradition one could defend the practice of taking a Christian name upon being made a Catechumen, although the general practice is upon Baptism in to the Church.

Thanks. I was wondering about the 8th day naming.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
