Indonesian Church

Post by Brigid »

I noticed when browsing a recent news item at the ROCOR site this reference:

'Among those serving were ...Archimandrite Daniel from Indonesia (whom Archbishop Hilarion received under his omophorion from the Patriarchate of Constantinople)'

http://www.russianorthodoxchurch.ws/01n ... esday.html

Does this mean that the Indonesian church is now part of ROCOR? I don't recall hearing anything about that.

It seems so.

This new press-release says:

"The mission headed by Fr Daniel [in Indonesia] is a part of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia."

That sounds exciting. I have always been an admirer of Fr. Daniel. As the largest Muslim nation in the world, Indonesia seems to me as one of the most important targets to the Orthodox missionary activity in the XXI Century.

May God bless Fr. Daniel and his missionary efforts.

Thank you, Felipe. What the press release does not clarify, however, are the reasons which lie behind Archimandrite Daniel's change of jurisdictions.

I agree with you that he has a important, if difficult, territory to work in his native land and join with your prayers for his success.
