New Milan Synod Website

Post by costaswright »

Updated with new bishops and parishes throughout Europe and
South Africa:

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/elia1960/ (In Italian)

From the official English website:

"The Holy Synod of Milan is the Diocese for Western Europe of that Old Calendarist Greek Orthodox Church which (after receiving a Hierarchy with the aid of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia) was united under Archbishops Akakios and Auxentios. This Diocese was granted a Tomos of Autonomy in 1984 from Archbishop Auxentios in order to pursue missionary work among the non-Orthodox people of the West. The title of the Synod at this time was the Metropolia of Western Europe. After the transference of its first Chief Hierarch, Metropolitan Gabriel of Portugal, to the Autocephalous Church of Poland, Bishop Evloghios of Milan was chosen as second Chief Hierarch. Ten years later, Metropolitan Evloghios remains at the helm of the Holy Synod of Bishops. The Milan Synod uses the Julian calendar exclusively, and firmly resists the heresies of false ecumenism and trans-religious syncretism. Since 1997, the Milan Synod includes a number of Western Rite communities, mainly in the United States, who worship according to pre-schismatic (historically Orthodox) Liturgy with the full support of the Metropolitan and of the Holy Synod of Bishops. The Western Rite of the Milan Synod is not administered via a vicariate, but by the same administration as the general Byzantine Rite communities. It has been characterised by a strongly monastic presence coupled with missionary outreach and vigorous publishing activity. "

Milan Synod

Actually, the Milan site loads just fine in Firefox now, though some photo links seem to be broken. The English site has not been updated for a while, so the individual dioces sites should be more reliable.

I would like to take this oportunity to mention my own Church, Holy Theotokos (formerly Holy Name of Mary,) which is also under the Milan Synod. Our web site is at www.odox.net .

Austin's only Old Calendar Eastern Orthodox Church?

Interesting claim since I believe the Matthewites have a Church inAUstin, as does Father Aiden Keller, whos just left the Milan Synod for ROCOR in the last year. ROCOR also has an all-Slavonic parish in Austin.

Who exactly does the Milan Synod recognise as Orthodox?

I noticed in the directory for the Milan Synod that there is contact info for Hot Springs, AR , but no Church name. Could someone 'in the know' tell me if there is a Milan Synod Parish in Hot Springs, Arkansas? Many thanks.

I fear the web sites are very much out of date. I understand that there is no longer a Milan Synod presence in Arkansas. As to other old-calendar churches is Austin, this statement may be very much out of date, too. I am a relatively new convert, very much NOT "in the know," and only wanted to mention the Austin church and its web site.
