Question If ROCOR joins MP will all ROCOR threads go here?

Post by Justin Kissel »

If ROCOR enters into communion and concelebrates with the MP, will threads about ROCOR get moved from the Traditionalist Churches section to the World Orthodoxy section?

Excellent question.

Seems to me they should since they would then be a part of "World Orthodoxy".

If ROCOR is already in communion with Serbia and the JP, why would communion with Moscow make us "World Orthodox"?

Dear Servant of God,
That seems to depend on whose definition of "World Orthodox" you use. Personally, I think the term "World Orthodox" is pretty meaningless and can be arbitrarily assigned to anyone, since the definition seems to keep changing. When I first joined Euphrosynos Cafe, the home page listed my juristiction as "Moderate Traditionalist", Now it is considered "World Orthodox". What a load of nonsense! As though there are 'degrees' of Orthodoxy! Orthodoxy is Orthodoxy. Being "sort of Orthodox" would be like a woman being "sort of pregnant"- she either is or isn't. If those who use the term "World Orthodox" were indeed sincere and guiless, they would use the term "UNORTHODOX" or "HETERODOX" to describe those they disagree with and consider 'heretical'.
A dear friend of the family is a Roman Catholic teacher of theology at a seminary, and when she was asked whether she leant towards 'feminist theology', she replied vehemently: 'There is no feminist theology, there is only theology'!. In the same way, I think, 'World Orthodox' is not a reality, and should not be treated as such. There is no "Traditionalist" Orthodoxy, nor "World" Orthodoxy nor "Genuine" Orthodoxy- there is only "Orthodoxy", and Orthodoxy is, among other things, Traditional and genuine and is the Ark of Salvation in the world. "World Orthodoxy" is a meaningless mental construct and catchy phrase which people mistake for a reality, like "corporate citizen" or "feminist theology". I wouldn't worry about it.

I do not agree with the Cyprianites, but neither do I call them 'World Orthodox'. However when ROCOR-L does go in to union with the MP I will ask that new threads will go in this thread. The old threads would not be moved as it was a bout a ROCOR before they succumbed.
