incense use by laity

Post by Clydester2 »

I was wondering if it is ok for laity to use an ecclesiastical censor in their homes?
Thank you.

Most homes use a small censer, that is one without chains but with a small handle. I have one. It is normal in a pious home, yes, together with an icon corner, holy water and a Bible, etc.

You might regularly go around censing each room and doorway plus anybody present.

Censers and sensitive smoke detectors can be a problem. Okay in a house but more difficult in 'shared' accommodation. The amount of smoke can be limited by not 'over-loading' the censer with incense.

Personally, I try to avoid ecclesiastical censors

Hand censors are okay, but no one can use an ecclesiastical censor without a priest's blessing and it must be used in a service of the Church.
