State Church seeks dialogue with the TOC

Post by Sean »

I just came across this information on the xenia list:

EVENTS IN THE ORTHODOX CHURCH OF GREECE

According to the statesments of New Calendarists certains changes are expecting in the life of the State Church of Greece. Thus, they repeatedly announced in the mass media about their intention to resolve the "Old Calendar problem" during the current year by starting
a dialogue with existing jurisdictions of Old Calendarists. This is not caused, however, by their care for Church, but ratherly by their efforts to suppress the voices blaming them for unorthodox actions, to which they are forced also by Europe.

The jurisdiction headed by Archbishop Chrysostom Kiousis hurried to respond to this declaration and in turn declared its readiness to a dialogue with New Calendarists, adding that in the past they by themselves had already appealed for such a dialogue. Their only
objection was, that their jurisdiction "is the only canonical one", which New Calendarists must carry on to talk with.

On the contrary the Synod under Archbishop Macarius has immediately responded to the evil declaration of the New Calendarists by publishing the Communique, where declared their firm refusal to join any dialogue with the New Calendarists as far as - according to Communique - "there is not any "Old Calendar problem" in Greece or
anywhere else, but already for 80 years exists a New Calendar problem". The New Calendarists must reintroduce into their Church the Old Calendar, cease their common prayers with heretics and leave the Oecumenical movement, so then, every dialogue with the Old Calendarists will be of no use.

According to available information, with this position of the Synod under Archbishop Macarius also agree other important Old Calendar jurisdiction wtith the exeption of that of Abp.Kiousis, which is seeking, as we have already seen earlier,to obtain at any cost - probably even at the cost of its Faith - a recognition on a part of the State.

Do you know if there there is an actual news story on this anywhere? This would be most interesting, if true, especially if taken with ROCOR's own attempts to reconcile with the MP.

I'm afraid I don't know. The gentleman who posted this on xenia is a Lamian. As we all know, they have a very scarce presence on the internet (to their credit). According to this, it is all over the Greek press. I posted this because I found it interesting for the exact same reasons you did. Perhaps the members of the TOC on this forum could clarify this a bit more.

To their credit?? You can't even find their parishes to visit them!

Disclaimer: Many older posts were made before my baptism and thus may not reflect an Orthodox point of view.
Please do not message me with questions about the forum or moderation requests. Jonathan Gress (jgress) will be able to assist you.
Please note that I do not subscribe to "Old Calendar Ecumenism" and believe that only the Synod of Archbishop Kallinikos is the canonical GOC of Greece. I do believe, however, that we can break down barriers and misunderstandings through prayer and discussion on forums such as this one.

I realise that I'll probably be in the minority here on this one, but I think this is pretty funny.

...but will we ever hear the Lamians retract this like CBS: "The supreme Lamian says it can no longer vouch for the authenticity of the documents, and that the documents should not have been used in the broadcast." :)

Some “snippets”:

…“To their credit??”…

Most definitely!

…”You can't even find their parishes to visit them!”…

“Seek and ye shall find.”

…“I realise that I'll probably be in the minority here on this one, but I think this is pretty funny.”…

So does the evil one!
