Dear in Christ Basil,
I will pray for you.
Please don't panic about this- God is bigger, even than the Internet! Trust Him who loves you.

I'm afraid I don't have any wise advice :) Your priest probably has much better advice than I. I have struggled for not a few years with this problem, and still have not totally gained victory over it. So I'm not sure how proper it would be for me to talk about this, as though I knew from experience how to conquer this foe. What I will say is what I know from experience and reading the Fathers. First, experience: as soon as you feel a thought coming on, leave it off. Go outside for a walk, talk to someone, do anything that engages your mind and won't let it slip back to the same thoughts and allow you to act on the thoughts. Also, normally you can't look to things like marriage (or other big events) as a cure. Sexual sin is a psychological problem, it's an addiction that is fixed primarily in your brain, though of course it is often acted upon physically. Regarding what the Fathers say, they say that work and fasting are the best remedies, of course combined with prayer and the other virtues. I think the point is that idleness (laziness of body) and gluttony (ie. lack of self control) both lead to a lack of watchfulness in the mind; if you are careful to guard your body against sin, your mind will be better prepared to fight temping thoughts when they appear.

Rule of Prayer Against Evil Thoughts

Post by 尼古拉前执事 »

All good advice, as well as adding filters to your computer that block sites that rile the passions, but I would also suggest "Rule of Prayer Against Evil Thoughts" that you can get from http://www.monasterypress.com/presstitles.html
