What are the best Orthodox resources online?

Post by Seraphim Reeves »

I'd be interested in seeing what others here have bookmarked as their most useful/interesting Orthodox resources on the 'net? I'd also be interested in seeing links to anyone's personal pages, if they have one.

As for useful sites, I'd list the following...

http://www.romanity.org - "The Romans" website, an Orthodox theological/historical website, offering not only Orthodox thoughts on religious matters, but how they tie into the history of the western world. Mos significant, is the site's "revisionist" (not always a bad thing!) take on Roman history, and just who the "Romans" in fact were down through history.

http://www.orthodoxinfo.com - the famous/infamous "Orthodox Information" website. Despite some of the bad press it gets (mainly for it's traditionalist outlook), I think it is one of the most useful websites available. The variety of information it offers is, imho, unparalleled.

http://orthodox.truepath.com - though on the "hawkish" side (and sometimes a little bit too much so even for me), it offers a lot of interesting information/essays not available elsewhere. Some of it's information on Roman Catholicism is startling, and useful for someone comparing/contrasting it with Orthodoxy.

http://www.orlapubs.com/AR/index.html - the "Orchid Land Publications" Orthodox website. Once again, another source for interesting texts, with an emphasis upon what is distinctive about Orthodoxy (contrasting it with western confessions/assumptions about Christianity.)

http://chrysostomosca.tripod.com/ - links to the writings of Fr.Georges (Florovsky). Well worth reading; perhaps one of the greatest Orthodox theologians of the 20th century.

http://www.pravoslavie.ru/english/ - The english website of Pravoslavie.ru. Occassionaly updated, with interesting articles on both contemporary Orthodox issues, as well as theological/historical essays, and even the occassional article relating to some scientific subject.

http://www.fatheralexander.org/ - Father Alexander's excellent website. A great modern defender of Orthodoxy, who has written a number of useful tracts that I think are accessable to people of all sorts of background/education. A number of his writings are apologetical in nature. Though I don't agree with him regarding the subject of evolution, otherwise I find his articles worthwhile.

I'm sure if I look further through my bookmarks (and there are a lot of them), I could find more sites like these. However, I'd be interested in the suggestions of other participants on this forum.

Orthodox News - They sometimes allow nonsense to be posted under their editorial/opinion section, but other than that this is a great place for information about what's going on in the Church around the world.

CCEL - Has many documents by the Church Fathers which are in the Public domain (also on the site are other invaluable texts, such as those by everyone from Thomas Aquinas to Calvin to G.K. Chesteron.

John Burnett - Interesting collection of excerpts from various Orthodox (and some non-Orthodox) texts, including some by Florovsky, Mother Maria, Mark the Monk, etc.

Schismatic Group With Lots of Orthodox Texts - This place has all sorts of informative texts, including many by Saint like Theophan the Recluse and Nikolai Velimirovich. I'm pretty sure they also have the full text of Tito Colliander's Way of the Ascetics, though I never scrolled through to make sure that it was all there.

Patristics/Scripture - A good resource for a study on what the Church Fathers thought about particular Scriptural passages. Very limited in the Fathers quoted (normally Cyprian, Tertullian, Origen, Irenaeus, Hippolytus, and a few others are the ones mentioned), but very helpful in that it at least gives you a few Fathers (which are better than having none to read).

Links - I have many of the other links that I've found helpful or informative on my links page.

Dear Seraphim,

You wrote,

"Some of it's information on"
"on mainly for it's traditionalist outlook"

In both cases, you should replace "it's" with "its". It's = "it is" and "its" = possesive form.

In Christ,

anastasios
