Saint Herman of Alaska

Post by romiosini »

There is this wierd posting of the date of which Saint Herman reposed. When do we exactly celebrate him? The Oca does on the December 12 with Saint Spyridon of Cyprus, but some other Russian Synods celebrate him December 13. What's up with that? 2 different dates of the reposal of one Saint?

The new calendar is Dec. 25, minus 13 days, makes it Dec. 12. St. Herman died before the calendar schism and should be celebrated on that original date (Dec. 12, which falls on Dec. 25 (n.c). Hence, the reason why Christmas falls on Jan 7...by the Julian calendar it IS Dec. 25.
