I had never heard such a thing before.
Interesting. I just read this from the Synod list:
St.Vladimir's Grandmother Olga received Orthodoxy in Constantinople with the name Helen, before the conversion of Russia and was influential in St.Vladimir's conversion. St.Vladimir was baptized with the name of
Basil. I don't know why we keep calling him Vladimir unless it was because everyone knew him by that name.
Russia's greatest influence in Orthodoxy came from Constantinople. The
Church in Constantinople was instrumental in guiding Russia's Orthodoxy to the heights it achieved until those who studied in the west were influenced by the Latin ecclesiology that ultimately threatened it.
The new trade routes that were found to Constantinople were harsh at first, but perservered mostly because of the many riches that were found there.
