Oriental Orthodox truly apart of the Orthodox Church?

Post by Andreas »

I find it hard to accept that a Church that rejects even one Ecumenical Council could be considered Orthodox. Am I wrong in thinking this? And if I am, does that mean I can start picking and choosing what Ecumenical Councils I will believe in, and still be considered Orthodox? I have been on other Orthodox forums where people have denied the authenticity of the Oriental Churches, and those people were ganged up on like a rabbit in a room with a pack of wolves. :ohvey:

It is IMPOSSIBLE to be Orthodox and reject ANY of the ecumenical councils, Andreas.

Non-Chalcedonians are not Orthodox.

That statement is not an attempt to libel them; it is an honest assessment of their positions and nothing more than what the Orthodox Fathers of the Church have said, as well.

Some Non-Chalcedonian apologists and well-meaning but ill-informed Orthodox are attemtping to dress up the ancient heresies of Monophysitism and Monothelitism in Orthodox clothing in the name of "unity" and "Christians growing closer together." They are misleading many.

It sounds like you will not be fooled, however.

You're on the right track in sticking with the ecumenical councils and the Fathers of the Church.
