BIshop Kallistos (Ware)?

Post by Andreas »

What do you all think of him? I think sometimes he can be too liberal on certain issues. But overall I believe he has a great mind, and is a man with a true Christian spirit.

I watched his interview I am not impressed with him nor to fond of him. Especially when he says "I am not for or against female ordination, there has been no argument that would change my views to either side."

He says this on his interview which you can find GOArch.org. That should even be a question for a Orthodox Bishop.

Regardless of if you like his views or not, he has made some tremendous contributions to Orthodoxy in the English speaking world. His translations of the Triodion, festal menaion, Philokalia etc. have made it possible to only speak English and be exposed to Orthodoxy. Despite some flaws even his book "The Orthodox Church" is a pretty good introduction to Orthodoxy if you have never heard of it before. As to some of his questionable stances, let us cover the error of a brother and praise his many good deeds.

Christ is Risen!
Truly He is Risen!

Bishop KALLISTOS is VERY liberal. In addition to the women's ordination issue, he has also signed on as spokesperson for some "Christian" magazine..can't remember the title, as I trashed the junk mail after seeing him with Prots and Catholics and determining slant of magazine thereby. :ohvey:

However, on Church History he IS fairly sound, and generally correct.

I must say that I am truly thankful for his contributions to Orthodoxy!

If it wasn't for his book "The Orthodox Church", I would not have begun my journey to Orthodoxy, that is still not yet complete.

He seems a bit too liberal to me, too.

Although Bishop Kallistos' book, The Orthodox Church, was helpful to me in the beginning, it also led me astray in some important areas. The chapter entitled "The Reunion of Christians" is particularly misleading.
