Moderate vs Extreme

Post by Gregory »

While I was visiting the portal, I noticed two sections: Moderate Churches and Extreme Churches.

What are the differences?

Although there might be other differences, I think the distinction is made based on ecclesiology. ROCOR, for instance, while speaking out against the calendar innovation, never thought of it as a reason for breaking communion with another group. The Greek Old Calendarists, on the other hand, considered the calendar innovation a schismatic act which deprived those who accepted the innovation of grace. In that way, ROCOR would be said to have a more moderate stance when compared with the more extreme Greek Old Calendarists. Neither position is necessarily wrong, and I don't think the word "extreme" as Nicholas used it is meant to carry the negative associations it normally does in English.

One thing about the portal, though:

Hellenic/C2K GOC of Greece

I find it very offensive that Archbishop Chrysostomos II would be referred to as "C2K".

Actually OL, I think you got it backwards. The "extremists" are the ones who stay as far away from Eccumenism and Moderism as they can.

NO! I Think you have it completley backwards!

Ecumenist and Modernizers are the Extremeist Compromising our Orthodox Faith for Union with Heretics and Schismatics. Whats Extreme is when your willing to compromise the truths of Holy Orthodoxy for "Communion" with Graceless Heretics and Schismatics.

"It is Proper and Just" to stay as far away from such heretical activies, which sacrafice "unity" for Truth, and things which destroy our Holy Church of Christ!
