More GOC questions from your favorite Uniate

Post by Anastasios »

Friends,

It is my understanding that Mets Paisios and Vikentios were among the founders of the "Lamnian" or "Lamian" (sorry my memory escapes me at this moment) schism.

When did this schism happen?

I am told that the Lamian schism happened over Met Petros of blessed memory's refusal at that time to condemn the grace of NC's. Now, that confuses me because Paisios and Vikentios ALWAYS gave communion to NC's. So why would they join a Synod formed in opposition to grace in the NC?

Secondly, before the Lamnian schism, why did St Markella's Cathedral exist less than 1 mile from St Irene Chrysovalantou Cathedral, BOTH in the GOC? And with three metropolitans! Or was Petros "walled off" from the Synod at that time? This is all very confusing to me!

Thirdly, while still in the Lamnian GOC, Mets Paisios and Vikentios consecrated Bp Anthony Grabbe and Nektarios of Gardikion. I think Anthony went to ROAC but what became of Nektarios of Gardikion?

Thanks for any help in answering this.

In Christ,

anastasios

It is my understanding that Mets Paisios and Vikentios were among the founders of the "Lamnian" or "Lamian" (sorry my memory escapes me at this moment) schism.

When did this schism happen?

1995.

It should be understood that the giving of communion to certain new-calendarists was the method in which they were received into the Synod. Met. Petros never recognized Grace among new-calendarists. Of course this method created scandal and was stopped.

But the Lamian schism did not have anything to do with this, it was due to charges against Bishop Ethymios of Thessaloniki and a Corporation which was in the name of the philoptikos, which was headed by Ethymios.

I believe the pair of Lamians finally renounced God and were ordained by the EP in May of 1998.

Secondly, before the Lamian schism, why did St Markella's Cathedral exist less than 1 mile from St Irene Chrysovalantou Cathedral, BOTH in the GOC? And with three metropolitans! Or was Petros "walled off" from the Synod at that time? This is all very confusing to me!

St. Markella’s predates much of the events we might discuss, but that is a good question. I do think though, that Paisios and Vikentios were somehow "retired" or an auxilary type.

Thirdly, while still in the Lamnian GOC, Mets Paisios and Vikentios consecrated Bp Anthony Grabbe and Nektarios of Gardikion. I think Anthony went to ROAC but what became of Nektarios of Gardikion?

Yes, Anthony Grabbe and later Nektarios was consecrated by them and Met. Stefanos of Chios, all in the month of October of 1996. I think Nektarios was an some kind of auxiliary to the auxilary?? bishop at St Irene Chrysovalantou, but I don’t know what happened to him.
