Where Were Catechumens Traditionally Departed to After the Liturgy of the Catechumens?

Post by aszurkus »

Hello all,

I hope Great Lent is going well; good struggle! I’m trying to understand the historical practice regarding where Catechumens were expected to go after being dismissed at the end of the Liturgy of the Catechumens. Specifically, did they typically stand within the Nave during the Liturgy of the Catechumens and then depart to the Narthex at the dismissal, or were they already in the Narthex and expected to leave the entire Temple at that point?

I’d appreciate any insights.
