WO Church of Cyprus Denies Gospel

Post by Agios_Irineos »

The head of the "church" of Cyprus signed an agreement with a Jewish rabbi in which he agrees that they will not try to convert Jews to Christ because that is harmful to the religious identity of the Jews.

I am not sure things can sink any lower than an official agreement not to try to bring people to Christ!

Lord have mercy.

I guess the next development will be for the Church of Cyprus to agree with the Pope of Rome that they also worship the same God of Love, which "God" embraces Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Seems like a reasonable next move.

Lord have mercy on them all!

Until now, the Orthodox churches have been reluctant to take this kind of step, but the Church of Cyprus has taken on this responsibility with today’s brave declaration.

“We hope that now, step by step, we will be able to enter into similar relationships with the other major Orthodox churches, such as the Greek and the Russian churches,” he said.

No point in converting to World Orthodoxy, from any background but especially a "Traditional" Roman Catholic one, when you'll be entering another inter religious dialoging church.

There is no point in joining nor remaining amongst the Traditionalist Roman Catholics in the face of the dogmatic papal bull, Unam Sanctum, where it is necessary for salvation to be united to the Pope. Any way you slice it the break away RCC factions, the Lefebvrists et al, are not subject to the Roman Pontiff.

The Roman Catholic Church repudiated the notion of the collective guilt of the Jewish people for Jesus’s death in 1965 with the promulgation of the Nostra Aetate, passed by the Second Vatican Council, which states that although some Jewish authorities called for Jesus’s death, blame cannot be apportioned to all Jews from that time, nor can Jews today be held accountable.

The other major provision of Tuesday’s pronouncement declares that proselytizing among the respective communities “undermines the religious identity of the other” and is “incompatible with mutual respect.”

On the other hand: If you were to ask the Traditionalist Catholics, though not the Dimondites, if Jews, Buddhists, and Atheists can get to Heaven even if they reject Jesus, they, the Traditionalists will answer in the affirmative: this displays the duplicity of calling the Eastern Orthodox the perjorative term schismatics, as they are wont to do, but at the same time saying that anti-Christs, in the literal sense of the term, can get to Heaven.

Good observations, Madison. Thanks too for bringing over some of the shocking quotations from that article. Now that I know it is from the publication you mentioned, I am glad I did not go near there.

That is scary about how they are aiming for Russian and Greek Orthodox NEXT.
I am surprised that Cyprus was so easy to manipulate. Maybe its geographical proximity is a factor ? Perhaps some intimidation was employed. I can't imagine even a World Orthodox Church agreeing to this so readily. Sinister.
