The late Fr. Thomas Hopko: his writings and his sermons

Two Orthodox Priests who run Greek publishing houses are also encouraging reunion with Rome. The late Father Thomas Hopko of the OCA made such a statement around 2003 in Los Angeles at an annual clergy retreat. While the Antiochians are less enthusiastic, they are the very ones who asked Father Thomas Hopko to speak at their annual clergy retreat.

Not to defend Fr. Hopko, but he also did an extensive talk on what conditions would have to exist for reunion and there is much of it that is sound orthodoxy. If you've never heard or read the paper, there is a recording of him reading it (in his typical old age ranmling way with a lot of side comments) on Ancient Faith Radio.

Yes, Fr. Hopko did provide an extensive list on what would have to be done to accomplish a union between Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism. However, the fact that he recommended A Catechism of the Catholic Church was very disconcerning. This CCC contains many heresies, one of which is that Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same Father God.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Like I said, I wasn't defending him. I thought his list was pretty good, that's all. Every now and then he would come up with something good.

Yes, Father Thomas Hopko's list was pretty convincing. And this list kept me happy, so I was content to remain within World Orthodox for eight more years. However, I was not growing spiritually and I struggled. I finally realized that I could no longer be in communion with Ecumenists.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.
