I discovered this petition via the Internet on a very liberal site, so this was quite a shocker.

I am not encouraging anyone to sign this petition, because it possibly is filled with disinformation.

Let's get to the truth behind this.

On 13 August 2001, in a closely contested race, the Greek Orthodox Church elected Metropolitan Irenaeos I, a 62-year-old bishop, as its new patriarch in the Holy City. ” Irenaeos I, born Emmanuel Skopelitis in 1939 on the eastern Aegean Island of Samos, was elected in two rounds of voting. Irineos I, who came to Jerusalem in 1953, at age 15 and studied at the Greek Orthodox Seminary on Mt. Zion, graduated from the church’s theological seminary in 1963. He became a monk and was ordained as a deacon in 1959; as a church elder in 1965, followed by his ordination as an archimandrite the following year. He studied theology at the University of Athens. He served as editor of the New Zion review and as president of the Ecclesiastical Court of Appeals in Jerusalem before he was appointed as the patriarchate’s representative to Greece in 1979. He returned to Jerusalem after the death of Patriarch Diodoros.

In the ensuing years Patriarch Irenaeos became the target of corruption.

2005: A coup developed against the Patriarchate/Patriarch involving an elaborate conspiracy by Greek businessmen.

The rightful Patriarch IRENAEOS was overthrown in 2005. He was ordered by Theophilos to leave Jerusalem, but Irenaeos refused to leave. Irenaeos rightly maintains he is still PATRIARCH and believes he must protect his people.

Two months later, Theophilos was installed by a corrupt Synod.

Irenaeos is a Greek citizen and has been living as a monk in Jerusalem since 13 years old.

I cannot possibly read everything and study all the issues.

Has anyone here studied the issues?

Quite a few Antiochian Christians had a dispute with Met. Philip of New Jersey calling him a freemason and refusing to obey him back in the late 1990s. Most of them left the Antiochian Orthodox Church and joined the few Old Calendarist Jerusalem Patriarch parishes here in the USA. This all occurred back in the late 1990s.

However, a few years later (coincidence?), all the American church properties and parishes under Patriarch Irenaeos of Jerusalem were forcefully removed from his control by the EP and transferred to the EP back in the early 2000s. This was during the time when my family was looking into Old Calendarism and was seeking to join the JP or HTM. With most of the JP parishes forced to join the New Calendarists, the only Old Calendar True Orthodox parish near us was with HOCNA, so we joined them as inquirers, but did not continue with them due to the rumors about Elder Panteleimon, Awake Sleeper, and Name Worshiping.

Did the Antiochian Hierarchy convince the EP to force Patriarch Irenaeos out of office? What really happened? Was Pat. Irenaeos set up regarding the bad real estate deals? This whole thing smells like a rotten fish.
