I forgot to return to write that I did pore over this in the library shortly after this was posted.
Very informative, thank you [though Philaret / Isaakos is sadly no longer with our TOCs]. Perhaps he became
discouraged that others were not as fiery as he and stomped off - ?!
Or, maybe we are to blame here a bit as well ? We did not exhibit enough interest in generally informative postings like this.
I came back to this thread today because - besides St John Maximovitch's Feast Day, of course - it is also St Paisius the Great.
Due to the little book published by Jordanville about the latter's life, I have venerated this desert-dweller. There are a few key points in the book which I have never read anywhere, not in the lives of other Saints.
I was surprised to see that it was then- Father Anthony Gavalas who was attributed the first credit for helping with the book. Perhaps inspiring the idea to begin with, even, though it does not specify that.
This was back in the early 1980s. An impressive work which continue to help generations of English speakers who would not otherwise have access to it in the original Greek.
Perhaps Father Anthony was also the link to Jordanville in arranging for the publication of the Life of Saint Paisius the Great.
I see a 2nd edition was printed in 1998.
In sum, a valuable - and lasting - contribution by a dedicated TOC clergyman.
