TOC of Georgia

Post by searn77 »

Does anyone know if there is a True Orthodox presence in the country Georgia? Also, does anyone know if there are any articles/papers on the TOC translated into Georgian? I met a Georgian Orthodox man who is currently attending a church of the Greek Archdiocese of America, and I would like to see if there are any articles he'd be able to read in his language.

Troparion of St. Philaret of New York
Let us the faithful now come together to praise our father, protector and teacher the pillar of the Orthodox faith and firm defender of piety even the wondrous hierarch Philaret and let us glorify our Saviour Who has granted us his incorrupt relics as a manifest sign of his sanctity.

You mentioned a need that should be addressed : literature in Georgian on True Orthodoxy. We all must keep this in mind
in case of meeting someone who could participate in that.

I doubt there is ANY TOC presence in Georgia presently. The Russian TOCs would be the only likely ones to have a small mission or parish. These are struggling under the weight of oppression on their own territory. So they probably have little energy left over for such outreach.

However, it's a great idea !
There must be dual language Georgians who could contribute this service of translating literature and once ready, disseminating it.

Georgians would probably be very interested. Though they would want a more Georgian focus, being quite patriotic and proud of their ancient country, the second Christian nation in the world, after all !

Be sure to mention that point to your friend or colleague, for it's rare for Westerners to be acquainted with Georgian history.
That would strike a positive chord right from the outset. That is, if you haven't spoken about the very ancient Georgian
Church and beautiful architecture already.

Yes, of course, there is! There is 100 persons under GOC-K in Georgia and 2 parishes. I can hardly see Russian missions there, in particular since some churches of Russia say that Georgia is the canonical territory of Russia, and there are political problems between the two countries. In the GOC-K monastery near Corinth, there is a Georgian priest (Father Kallistos). There was a report of a visit of a GOC-K bishop here:
