The Holy Synod of the Hierarchs of the Church of the Genuine Orthodox Christians of Greece, at the session on Wednesday, February 6/19, 2014, Feast Day of Saint Photios the Great, accepted the petition of His Grace, Bishop Ambrose of Phiippi, formerly of the “Makarian Synod”, to be received into the canonical authority of the Church of the G.O.C. Of Greece. He will be the episcopal authority for the Province of Drama, Greece and his cathedral will be in the city of Drama, Greece.
On February 7/20, 2014, His Grace, Bishop Ambrose served Divine Liturgy with His Eminence, Archbishop Kallinikos of Athens, His Eminence, Metropolitan Gerontios of Piraeus and His Eminence, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Attica, at the Convent of the Holy Archangels, Athikia, Greece.
His Grace, Bishop Ambrose, was born Ioannes Nikeforides in 1952 in Drama, Greece. He is a graduate of the Theological School of the University of Thessaloniki. He was ordained deacon in 1976 and presbyter im 1981. He was ordained bishop of Philippi, Greece in 1996 and has been an exemplary shepherd of his flock.
His Grace, Bishop Ambrose came to realize that the “Makarian Synod” was in schism from the canonical G.O.C. Of Greece Synod. His doubts were confirmed when “Archbishop Makarios of Athens” proclaimed the Name Worshipping heresy and recognized the new HOCNA Synod as the autocephalous Church of North America.
