ROAC ROCA RTOC 1953

Post by сынок »

Greetings,

In my quest for finding out the exact/close to 'group' of Russian Orthodoxy I came from, I put out this question. All the reading I have is intense and very confusing to sort through. Maybe there's a computer program out there that can line it all up for me :D . Anyways, I was baptized in 1953 with the seal of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad on my birth certificate. Being that they became ROCOR (here in the west or were they at the same time?) a few decades later, being that they joined MP in 2007, can anyone enlighten me a bit?

On the current main ROCOR site, I found the long-time reposed priest's name being thanked for his service. Back in 1953 Russia, weren't ROCOR still part of the good guys or were they already absorbed by Stalin and the boys? Nobody remains alive at my church of baptizm and attendance, so there's no one to ask. Since my church was operating as 'ROCA' (as on the stamp/seal on my birth certificate), can I assume that they were against the MP policies at that time. I remember most of the congregation being commie haters however; there was a few folks I would name as part of an 'inteligensia' who I had doubts about.

Dear in Christ, Synok!

Of course, if you was baptized in 1953 by ROCA, you was baptized by the only Russian Church abroad, and it was right and against the Soviet Church founded by Stalin. The Current ROCOR-MP nothing has to do spiritually with the historical ROCA or ROCOR, whence you was baptized.

Thank you Fr. Siluan!
I foolishly, have spent a couple hundred dollars on text books to help me find such a simple, straight-forward answer as you have just given me without a cost. Thank YOU!!!

Yes Maria, I have. You've done an amazing job of compiling so much information. If my answer was in those web sites, I must have overlooked it. I need direct, no spin answers like Fr. Siluan gave me. I feel really let down by many texts I've accumulated which do more 'spinning' than our current administration in Washington (if that's possible). Thank you for your work!

Sinok's post explains why he kept saying ROCA.
I FIGURED it was probably THAT.
But I wasn't sure, for he was talking about Met Agafangel, too.
That group is NOW calling itself "ROCA", which you must already know after reading
through piles of literature !
So you mean Rocor called itself ROCA in the 50s ?
I didn't realize that. When did it start using Rocor, I wonder ?

Well about those Intelligensias, immediately when I read the word, I assumed it might be
some unbelievers and possibly - even likely - informers for the MP or KGB.

Well it's fantastic you are getting back on track now after all the vicissitudes of life in the world.
What about a monastic vocation ? - !

The policies that ROCOR held are now largely held by the continuing ROCOR groups who did not join the MP, ROAC and RTOC. If you were baptized in 1953 virtually all the True Orthodox accept your baptism.
