News about St Mark of Ephesus parish in Boston

Post by Maria »

January 1/14, 2014

Today, the Holy Orthodox Metropolis of Boston just received word that the Suffolk County Superior Court for Civil Business has ruled decisively in our favor in the lawsuit that was filed against our Orthodox Metropolis on October 1, 2012. ... The court has ordered that the Metropolis’s Cathedral Church must be returned to the Metropolis within 30 days and that no items may be removed from the Cathedral during that time.

I deleted the apparent disinformation in my excerpt above. See the link for the complete "news release" published by HOCNA on their website.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Who was trying to get the churches away from Hocna ? It is not mentioned anywhere that I saw on that site.
Probably everyone else is aware of this, so, sorry to ask a dumb question !

Back in 2012, almost half of the HOCNA parishes, clergy, monastics, and faithful parishioners left due to the Name-Worshiping and Awake Sleepers' heresies. Those who split from HOCNA joined the GOC-AB Kallinikos Synod. The majority of members in this particular parish, the Cathedral parish in Boston, who were leaving HOCNA wanted to keep the church that they had helped to build, finance, and furnish. However, title was held in the name of HOCNA or the Metropolitan, and he refused to let go even though there was another HOCNA parish immediately next door.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

An inside source told me that the parish knew they would probably lose the case, but they needed to buy time to get a new property, which they have now successfully accomplished.

That is good news! I had heard that too, but there was no update at the HOTCA-GOC directory site.

Another Hocna parish immediately next door ? Wow, that is really avaricious-seeming to cling to the cathedral that way.

Thanks for the explanations here.
I figured it was the GOC which wanted to keep it, but it was odd that Hocna did not even specify which jurisdiction.
Maybe Hocna is afraid other of its members may get the idea to also flee ?

I wonder, too, who all those "supportive messages" were actually from ? Which jurisdiction in Georgia, for example ?
Seems odd that any Georgian Orthodox group would hear about this distant affair. Just for one example.

I am pretty sure that HOCNA has a diocese in the country of Georgia.

However, with the changes that HOCNA implemented on their website, I cannot find the documents they once had posted on their site.
