Vitamin D Deficiency - more common as we avoid sunshine

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Vitamin D Deficiency - more common as we avoid sunshine

Post by Maria »

  • Researchers have pointed out that increasing levels of vitamin D3 among the general population could prevent chronic diseases that claim nearly one million lives throughout the world each year. Incidence of several types of cancer could also be slashed in half.

Vitamin D also fights infections, including colds and the flu, as it regulates the expression of genes that influence your immune system to attack and destroy bacteria and viruses.

The problem may be as much to do with where you live as ought else. Living in the English Midlands and despite being out four or five times a day year round the sunlight from September through March is simply not strong enough. Hence periodic blood tests and D3 tablets.

I always KNEW that all this campaign to get people out of the Sun
was a fraud. Perhaps supported by the makers of sunblock....!

I insist on being out in the sun every day that it shines, as much as possible.
I am sorry for you, Stephen, that despite your best effort, the sun's rays are not strong enough
in your latitude. I don't think much of Vitamin D tablets ; almost useless, I fear.

What do blood tests do in this regard ?

I think putting not just oneself but everything of importance to sit out in the sun is elevating and purifying.

Think I am silly ? Even a mainstream article admitted that the ONLY way to get a sponge free of bacteria
is --- leaving it out in the sun ! Nothing else worked, especially not putting the used sponge in a microwave oven,
the author admitted.

So if the Sun cleans out a sponge successfully, doesn't it help us all just as much or more ?!

Having had skin cancer I am all too aware that too much of anything is not good. (My thanks to recently deceased "Bobby" who first noticed my lesion, showing animals too bring their gifts into our lives).

Blood tests monitor Vitamin D levels.

My real concern here and further North are the Moslem women who wear excessive outer clothing when outdoors. Heaven knows what their Vitamin D levels are year round! Around here we are seeing Ricketts in children.

What about our True Orthodox clergy and our Orthodox Monastics, both nuns and monks, who wear monastic or clerical clothing? Are they showing signs of Vitamin D deficiency?
