Sugary soft drinks - Just say "NO" if you can!

The resting place of threads that were very valid in 2004, but not so much in 2024. Basically this is a giant historical archive.

Sugary soft drinks - Just say "NO" if you can!

Post by Maria »

"A fizzy environment: Availability and consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages among school students."
Prev Med. 2013 Feb 26.

According to this study and others, the availability and consumption of sugary soft drinks leads to obesity, diabetes, symptoms of high blood pressure and high cholesterol, cavities in teeth, heart disease, and other diseases.

Many parents stock their refrigerators with soft drinks and even serve their children soft drinks for dinner. When children have free access to sodas at home, then they are ten times more likely to be high consumers as adults. Is this a deep dark secret that the soda industry does not want us to know? Not only is high fructose corn syrup dangerous, but sucrose is also deadly.

Trying to abstain from sugar is difficult because the body has learned to crave sugar. Resisting these cravings can leave one feeling irritable, sweaty, weak, and incoherent as blood sugar drops.

By the way, my husband and I have given up eating any kind of sugar including regular table sugar (sucrose), brown sugar, honey, agave, maple syrup, and molasses. We shifted to stevia, but occasionally we will use xylitol. We also read labels and avoid all processed foods that contain any kind of sugar. As a result, we no longer have symptoms of arthritis, and our allergic symptoms have almost disappeared. However, it is so easy to go off the band wagon. When we attend trapeza, sugary drinks, chocolates, and sweet desserts are always part of the menu. Even the salads are sweetened with sugary cranberries and pecans, or worse, salad dressings are laced with sugar.

Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me a sinner.

Good for your family< Maria !

I always hated soft drinks while growing up. I remember nothing at all could make me drink any cola especially.
After lots of persuasion and cajoling, I might have had a little Fanta Orange, as that seemed the most "natural", or let's say,
the lesser of the soda evils !
I regret having caved in on that, though. I doubt I did, because soda pop was never allowed at home, so only when
attending a rare birthday party or that type of thing would soda even be offered. I remember the pushiness, though, of hostesses.
That really was not doing anyone a favor !

You are doing a real service to remind everyone to keep a sharp eye out for hidden infiltrators like the cranberries [funny !].

I myself stopped eating anything at any group function, including Church trapezas, except only what was 100 % clear to be whole food by itself,
without sauces or condiments or anything which could be full of bad ingredients. Hence I ended up taking my own oil dressings for example
and skipping the offered one, or things like this. Desserts are ALL out completely. They are all made with wrong things, and eaten after a meal
of protein cause massive indigestion. In turn, toxins are generated which get stuck in the system, leading to sticky, gluey joints and muscles.

So I am glad your husband and you are not showing these symptoms any more, it sounds like ? As all the glue starts to dissolve and leave forever,
one feels sharper, more alert and agile. It's worth the sacrifice of eating what "everyone else" does. Many people do that just to placate, or because
they are afraid to make waves, or be ridiculed.

One's health is way more important than any snickering host or fellow guest !
Never be pressured by other people. It could well be demons behind them trying to get YOU to stumble and eat spiritually and physiologically poisonous foods
or ... sodas !!!

These are good topics to consider before Pascha with its array of rich food often on offer !

Fortunately I gave up the consumption of sugary soft drinks about a year or two ago :) However, that only led to my consumption of coffee increasing.

"'Blessed are the peacemakers' For those are peacemakers in themselves who, in conquering and subjecting to reason all the motions of their souls and having their carnal desires tamed, have become in themselves a Kingdom of God."-St. Augustine of Hippo (Confessions)

JamesR !
Watch out, coffee is a nightmare. Probably worse than the soft drinks, though it's a choice between
Scylla and Charybdis....
How about trimming that coffee consumption back and trying pleasant teas instead if you need to stay up for exams or whatever ?

My dear old dad used to refer to coffee, Coke, and Pepsi as "battery acid."

I do not drink any of that "battery acid." 8)

^ Good ! It really IS like that ! All fizzy and full of chemicals which eat away at probably the insides.

I noticed the other day that Sprite and Fanta are

1) still around after all these years

2) I think made by CocaCola, too

Velly suspicious !
