Two bishops kidnapped in Syria - Chechnyan involvement

Post by Maria »

Two bishops have been kidnapped: Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Aleppo and Iskandaroun and Yohanna Ibrahim, the Syrian-Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo. The driver of the vehicle was killed.

Chechynan involvement? Are people jumping to conclusions? On the news last night, there was a old news clip, which showed an emotional plea by a Chechynan imam urging the people to retaliate against Russians, Americans, and others.

  • [Update] Additional information has been made available to an-Nahar indicating the possibility of a connection of this incident to what happened in Boston, since the kidnappers include individuals from Chechnya. Intensive contacts to establish the circumstances of the incident.

There are plenty of jihadists among the Syrian rebels. I don't think we need to postulate direct Chechen involvement.

Sadly, the jihadists in Syria are getting U.S. taxpayer support thanks to Obama.

There was a recent news story saying that many Orthodox Christians in Syria would rather have the Syrian Government remain in power than a jihadist rebel takeover as the jihadists are destroying Orthodox Christian churches and killing villagers. Yet, American dollars are flowing in to support the rebels. With the kidnapping of these two bishops, we see the real threat of jihadists in Syria.

Lord have mercy.

One of the kidnapped Archbishops is Greek Orthodox Archbishop Paul (yazigi)of Aleppo, Syria is the brother of the Patriarch John X of Antioch. The Orthodox church has had very good relations with the Assad Government. President Bashar Al-Assad Visits the Antiochian patriarch on the Nativity to Congratulate Orthodox christians . The Syrian President also takes his family to visit the Saidnya convent.
