Your name sounds Jewish? Oh, dear, dear me. And this is a Christian forum. Maybe so, maybe so.
A dear friend of mine had a Swiss German friend, now dead. She used to attend a Synod parish where a notorious Russian lady of noble background and fascist tendencies was a congregant. This woman was excluded from communion for much of the time on account of her attitudes. One day my friend just could not cope with the tirade of anti-Jewish venom and in, possibly, an ill-judged moment said, but .......... I am a quarter Jewish and Our Lord and His mother were Jews too".
"Nonsense, the grand lady said, they came from ancient Russian stock and you cannot be Jewish, I like you!"
The mentality of some of this thinking is so constructed that even reality has to be re-spun in order to accomodate the vulgar prejudice.
(This grand lady was even interned during the second world war for trying to seduce and turn a high ranking government official. She had the virtue at least, I suppose, of consistency and commitment. I hope she made her peace at the end).
Please note any who might suspect I am somehow an admirer of Israel, or any other such phantasy, that I have long been a serious critic of Zionist and Israeli Defence Force actions and the US Governments double standard in relation to Israel. I also abhor the vulgar misuse of the term "Anti-semitism" when the writer or speaker means "Anti-zionist" or "anti-Jewish" or racial bigotry. The Semites peoples includes both Jews and non-Jews, including Arabs. Those who indiscriminately use the term "anti-Semitism" invariably and conveniently overlook this.
