Sadly those who prefer to scapegoat these, and they may be Jews today and folks of colour tomorrow, will remain wedded to their phantasies. If only they didn't want the rest of us to join with them..............

Indeed, gphadriag, I concur. And if there were no Jews nor people who are a different colour, some other demarcation of "difference" or "inferiority" or "Un-humanity" would have to be found.

It is not limited to the US or Europe either. Japan has it's "Burakumin" for example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burakumin
India the Dalit "Untouchables"
In Yemen it is the "Akhdam" http://www.countercurrents.org/hr-marguerite250404.htm

It is an unfortunately common evil around the world.

Your name sounds Jewish? Oh, dear, dear me. And this is a Christian forum. Maybe so, maybe so.

A dear friend of mine had a Swiss German friend, now dead. She used to attend a Synod parish where a notorious Russian lady of noble background and fascist tendencies was a congregant. This woman was excluded from communion for much of the time on account of her attitudes. One day my friend just could not cope with the tirade of anti-Jewish venom and in, possibly, an ill-judged moment said, but .......... I am a quarter Jewish and Our Lord and His mother were Jews too".

"Nonsense, the grand lady said, they came from ancient Russian stock and you cannot be Jewish, I like you!"

The mentality of some of this thinking is so constructed that even reality has to be re-spun in order to accomodate the vulgar prejudice.

(This grand lady was even interned during the second world war for trying to seduce and turn a high ranking government official. She had the virtue at least, I suppose, of consistency and commitment. I hope she made her peace at the end).

Please note any who might suspect I am somehow an admirer of Israel, or any other such phantasy, that I have long been a serious critic of Zionist and Israeli Defence Force actions and the US Governments double standard in relation to Israel. I also abhor the vulgar misuse of the term "Anti-semitism" when the writer or speaker means "Anti-zionist" or "anti-Jewish" or racial bigotry. The Semites peoples includes both Jews and non-Jews, including Arabs. Those who indiscriminately use the term "anti-Semitism" invariably and conveniently overlook this.

Of course, I have not studied well the Russian Revolution, but let me remind everyone that <Saint> (let me remind everyone that he has been glorified a Saint) Tsar Nicholas the 2nd was very religious and also very Jewish friendly.

Yes and no...he wasn't really very consistent when it came to the Jews.

Why am I saying this? Well Stalin himself ordered that Cross to be destroyed and thrown down, declaring this words: The Cross has fell, Jesus has Died, the Saints are dead, and the Orthodox Church is dead!
Now how is nominally Orthodox? When he has apostasized against Orthodoxy?

I should clarify that by nominally Orthodox I meant he was of an Orthodox background. I wasn't suggesting he followed the faith in any meaningful way.

 Good Golly! I almost used the "jaw dropping emoticon" but it uses too much space. Perhaps if there were one for banging ones head on the keyboard. I am astounded that someone could believe that Our Lord was of "Russian" stock. Then again, sometime back I read part of an essay that maintained that Jesus' words from the Cross ("Eloi, Eloi ...") were actually in a form of Early Slavic. (!)

The mentality of some of this thinking is so constructed that even reality has to be re-spun in order to accomodate the vulgar prejudice.

Indeed. Deep Sigh.

Esther,

Sts. Irenaeus and Justin Martyr played a big part in convincing me to make the leap, particularly Irenaeus' Demonstration of the Apostolic Preaching.

THIS I would LOVE to hear. This is what I'm talking about. I LOVE to hear people's spiritual revelations and experiences. EVERYBODY can benefit from this.

Esther, I am truely sincere about hearing your experience of truth. It would be a great spiritual profit to all , considering the dreary world we live in. We need to celebrate in each other's joy of revelations.

Can we forget about the other arguements and just enjoy some spiritual unity?

I'm a convert from catholism ( 10 yrs). Not Russian. So no national socialism happening there. Shoot, I'm Canadian. We aren't too national about our socialism? hehe. But, don't insult our beer.

But, just the same, there are alot of sides to me. I have a good, long history. And I'm very serious about Orthodoxy. I just want to make sure that the people I talk to are serious about it too.

Esther,

Where did you go? Don't you WANT to talk about your conversion? It would be a great benefit to many, to hear your experience. Afterall, many of us here are converts.

Isn't that why you came here? To talk to converts?

Or did you just come to stir up the dirt and disappear?
